In a word, it is the greatest delicacy one can ever have the pleasure of consuming. Try it if you ever get the chance.
It is actually an ongoing Aussie practical joke. You see we inoculate all our children by giving to them at a young age until they are so immune that they can eat it by the spoonful. Then we offer the said spoonful to unaware and "Vegemite naive" Americans Guaranteed hilarity!
I remember reading that Nicole had young Tom on Vegemite, but it was obviously not in big enough doses to make their union endure.
Yeah haha its been ages. Good to see you've held the fort. The recent postal vote on ssm got my blood boiling. And thus I decided to revive an old hobby.
Vegemite is ambrosia - nectar of the Gods. Also very high in vitamin C. Personally I prefer it on toast. The stuff they serve in heaven.
It's a horrible spread that tastes like vitamins. I've had a bite of a vegemite sandwich (when I was in grad school, I knew several Australian students and we once had an intercultural exchange. The Americans made peanut butter sandwiches and the Australians made vegemite sandwiches). Horrible stuff. I think BowerBird is right-it's gotta be an Aussie practical joke.
Vegemite is concentrated yeast extract. It is brown in color, looks like Nutella, but probably tastes nasty. Lol.
Love it on my toast with scrambled eggs and or fried tomato and onion. Great to add flavour and salt to casseroles, soups stews etc. Improves mental and sexual powers ... well that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Makes Aussie men look good in thier Budgie smugglers :d You know increases the.........................vitality!
It's probably pretty good to cook with. I think it would taste very similar to a beef broth or bouillon cube. Not something I would eat it in a sandwich though. I hear it is very salty.
It is good for stews etc. But I prefer Marmite (the English version). And yes, it's incredibly salty.
vegemite sandwich = concentrated beef stock sandwich...there's plenty other sandwiches much tastier than vegemite...I'll eat crackers with vegemite and grated cheese or in a scroll... but that's pretty much the only way I'll eat vegemite
Is Vegemite Healthy? Let’s open the bright yellow lid and take a look inside. The paste is packed with B vitamins, containing a great big dollop of niacin, riboflavin and thiamine. It also has 50 percent of the recommended daily intake for folate. You’ll also get a good dose of calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and selenium. These vitamins are known to help keep the skin and eyes healthy, improve cell health, boost the digestive system and keep your nerves in check. So while Vegemite is considered a healthy spread, it’s what you eat it in conjunction with that could get you into trouble. Be wary of the bread you choose – white being the least nutritious – and avoid the butter if you can or choose an alternative like coconut spread or avocado. That being said, Vegemite is incredibly salty. You only need a little to enjoy its taste and reap the health benefits. So go easy on the spread and you’ll be one happy little Vegemite indeed!
