I don't regularly play games but like you, I do when I am bored, if it is raining and I can't work outside. I had always preferred PC based games but since moving to my farm in a rural area, there is no such thing as fast internet. I'm lucky to get 12 mbs from a copper DSL which is all that is available. I was used to 100 mbs with cable.

I have for the most part switched to XBOX. Almost all the games require an initial update that takes me maybe 2 hours instead of 2 minutes with cable but once installed none of the games I play require a persistent internet connection. Needless to say, I can't play any online multi-player games either.

I look for simulators, mature action games (no zombies). What's left and what I like is first person shooter games. The EA battlefield series is pretty good. Most of the Call of Duty series and Take 2 interactive games like Grand theft Auto are what I like and what have the most realistic graphics. I also like winning so I like games that don't require extreme game playing skills to win, at least once in a while.

A lot of games are far too big and complex anyway with thick rulebooks and need powerful computers to play them, but luckily there are plenty of games that are much simpler; for example I recently bought 'Airport Madness 3D' and 'Vehicle Simulator', both of which play just fine on my laptop..:)

A good mix of interesting titles. Looks like some are available through Steam. I'd try some maybe. Many though appear to be repackaged and tired themes.

Their approach is very original. Mainly they have five star games (they are dlc heavy though, so buying them after all their commercial life (6/7 years of continued development and patches). Stellaris is a civilization type of game, but futuristic and with a lot of genocide.

Then there are the for historical ones. All of them are grand strategy games, which are fairly niche. Crusader kinds II is the medieval one. Europa universalis IV is from 1444 to 1821. For some time has been the second game in steam in hours played per game bought after Dota 2. It is also the most successful one. Victoria II till world War II. Hoi IV (or III) for world War II if you are interested in a military approach. The only thing you see in this games is a map, and in general they are very interesting for history fanatics. If you ever wondered about what would happen if random country wouldn't have done that, then this games are for you.

About 15 years ago I could play the original Civilization for hours. I think that was pre Win 95. Maybe even DOS? Anyhow, they kept changing it but the results were never as good as the original. I'll go to try some of those great old games and even with much more computing power and much better graphic cards ( with onboard mini processors now) they won't run. There just does not seem to be enough demand on the part of the game companies to upgrade them as classics.

I really didn't care for Xbox at first. I preferred a keyboard but adapted and overcame. Now, that's about all I use for games.

I have started playing Titanfall 2. I wanted an FPS as good as Halo...and while that's not the case, it's still a great game. I don't like the actual titan parts so much, preferring to go on foot as a soldier, but thankfully the game provides that option most of the time. Good weapons, tough enemies and fun level design.

I've just played GTA: San Andreas for the Xbox 360 on my Xbox 360 & Xbox One via my cloud, don't even need the disk for it on my Xbox One..
I only bought it because it said 'achievements' on the back and I was like 'done deal', bought it, played it, love it.
I've finished the game, took me over a week, but right away, when I bought it, I listened to the radio and thought it was better than buying the OST for the game because you get a game and you get the cast of DJs with all that music; love that game, played it, with no cheat codes for the first time ever though (achievements wanted) and I've now completed it 3 times in my life, it gets old, but it's still a golden oldie and... I'm playing some old games like Skate 3 and Wet right now, I have loadsa used games from CEX but I found GTA San Adreas brand new for £20.00 and CEX, when I saw one there, had it for £22.00, in used condition.

Branches of CEX I've accumulated my stuff from are:
    Croydon
    Rathbone Place
    Goodge Street
    Holloway
    Fulham

I've been to so many branches of CEX floating around London working around town going to CEX afterwards wherever the agency have sent me etc... And that's a lot of CEX stores for me, so much so, in Fulham, I saw someone from the Rathbone Place branch come in to do some CEX business or whatever; IDK, and, I've seen that £22.00 game they have used I got brand new first for £20.00 in Croydon in another game shop near Croydon's CEX in two of their branches but I can't quite for sure remember which two and the stock is always changing and I think I've had enough... I've been going to CEX a lot, instead of the adult book shop.

Fallout 4 on PC. I was a bit late to it cuz i needed a hardware upgrade to run it. I'll prolly get thru all the dlc about the time Fallout '76 comes out, which appears to be everything I've ever wanted in a shooter :)

Has anyone played Minecraft Xbox editon?
I'm tempted to buy it but I'm afraid I'd hate it.

I cannot in good conscience go without recommending a few mods that will drastically improve FO4. Obviously the Unofficial patch, Horizon, Sim Settlements and of course the ultimate immersion mod CART. I use a bunch of other mods but they are mostly quality of life mods like hotkeys and radio tuners etc. The below four pretty much cover all the important stuff.

    https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/33086

    https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/17374

    https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/21872

    https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4598

Regarding Fallout 76 I am very tentative about it. One of the single best parts of Fallout 3 and especially Fallout New Vegas were the quests and npcs in those games. They had some very memorable characters, far more memorable than Big Ol Booty, MyBoobiesJiggle or Lickmynuttz which I have to put up with in ESO and is definitely going to ruin F76 entirely in my view. I really wish they would just force people to use random name generators with rules.

I was using a crapton of mods, but ultimately got rid of all of them, and after playing the majority of the game modless, I don't miss them at all (except having gloves...). This may change if I finish the DLC before 76 comes out.

I hear you on the hole names thing. I'm hoping it will soon become like other games (that shall remain nameless beyond 'that of which we no longer speak') in the regard that there would be multiple servers where 'Lickmynuttz' can run around in a pimp-hat wielding a hammer bigger than my car on some servers, and others will enforce a modicum of RP. If not, and the game stays with just one massive server (or I guess one server for each platform since Sony is being a D about it), well 'Lickmynuttz' will just have to continue to be my sniper practice :). Or maybe certain regions of the apparently MASSIVE map will be RP only, or something.

And OMG you play ESO? WHY? :eyepopping:;)

ESO actually has really good PVP, the best of any MMO out there so far by far. Obviously it suffers from what all mmo suffers when it comes to questing and stuff like that but the guild I run with is a lot of fun especially when we do drinking games during PVP. :D

I used to avoid settlement building in FO4 like the plague because it was so cumbersome and tedious. Sim Settlements completely changed that around to where I spend most of my time now focusing on the settlements and Horizon adds extra layers of settlement progression my making you research certain things or having certain perks before you can build stuff.
