The situation with N Korea looks ominous to some of us. They have nukes and missiles, and they like to show their strength by testing them. In recent days, strong words have been spoken by both President Trump and Kim. Some of us are worried about the escalation of this rhetoric and where it might lead. But where do you think we are actually headed? War? Capitulation by N Korea? I'm asking you to channel your pre-conceptions (whether positive or negative) about Trump into predictions. Expect me to resurrect this thread in the future, to give everyone a chance to reconcile their predictions against what happens.
My prediction is: No negotiations ever start and the war of words will continue. The bad thing for us is that Trump will be seen as a guy who talks tough and makes threats, but does not follow through - so he can be ignored.
I think China will enforce the latest sanctions, cutting off about 90% of the North Korean economy and Kim Jong Un is going to have to act... Waging war is not going to resolve his financial woes and so perhaps he will negotiate an exchange, his nuclear arsenal for favourable terms for North Korea and conditions on the US forces in South Korea. Alternatively he will do the bat **** crazy and blow up Guam.
