Informative description, I always wondered what the heck that was like..

I had a tooth ache for like three years, until I got tired of it and used vodka and leatherman multi tool and ripped it out.

Guess you can't do that with kidney stones.

It started months ago, I thought it was food poisoning. All day, felt like I had to pee but little came out, that evening, I got feverish and vomited. Symptoms cleared up. Few weeks later, when peeing, had sharp pains in my lower, side back, that passed. Thanksgiving day, felt the stone move around my side to my bladder. Thats when the real razor pain during urination started. Other than this, I'm as healthy as a slightly overweight (6,1 210 pounds) smoker can be. At one point, I was in pain that does not pass while lying down or sitting.

Scotch is Whisky or Whiskey. Scotch is just a malt or grain whiskey made in Scotland.

Single Malt Scotch is my fav and I have sampled over 100 different versions of it from the Highlands to Islay.

Kidney stones form when your urine contains more crystal-forming substances — such as calcium, oxalate and uric acid — than the fluid in your urine can dilute. At the same time, your urine may lack substances that prevent crystals from sticking together, creating an ideal environment for kidney stones to form.Feb 8, 2019

Don't think weight has anything to do with it. You also may be more prone to it genetically. Find the foods that cause it and avoid them. For one person I knew it was peanuts.

Seems to be several causes, I have no idea what I did that caused it. I'm assuming the stone sparked the UTI. Found out I had a UTI because I went to Walgreens and saw a home UTI test. I thought I just had a stone and was very surprised to test positive for a UTI. Yay! Just my luck! I have both!

I've tried a few different scotches since creating this thread. I 'acquired' the taste for the peatiness fairly quickly. The non-peated scotches I tried were not distinguishable (to me) from irish whiskies.

Irish whiskey is generally distilled three times, whereas Scotch whisky is generally distilled two times. This means that the Irish version tends to have a cleaner profile, with less of those deep flavors.

    Interesting. I don't think I've ever had a non-peated Scotch.

    I like Rumple Minze.

Speaking of seasonal drinks, my wife makes an awesome Glühwein during Christmastime. Sometimes I'll spike it with spiced rum to give it a little more flavor and kick.

Holiday beers are nice, too. Spoetzl Brewery makes a nice Dunkelweizen with subtle peach and pecan flavors that I like. It should be hitting the store shelves pretty soon...

However, this is my favorite Holiday brew which is made by a craft brewery in Richmond, Virginia:

Captain Morgan that comes in the plastic jug. You can take it anywhere with very small risk of loss.

Were you aware that excess consumption of alcohol can actually cause kidney stones? Not sure how much beer you drink, but if it's any more than 'moderate', you may want to rethink it. Kidney stones are not fun for males, apparently!

There's your kidney stones. Time for a rethink :)

PS: One of the most disturbing scenes in Deadwood was when Al had to pass kidney stones. Much harder to watch than all the brutal murders and rapes etc. Once you've regained your sense of humour, you may want to watch it. If you haven't already :p

I've tried Bourbons etc, and don't care for them. The earthiness of Scotch adds a 'roundness' to an otherwise brutal drink.

Amen, girl. It's a Christmas tradition in our house - many happy memories.

In fact, that might be just what I need to start getting into the Holiday spirit...

    Warm and fuzzy. :-D

No matter where you live, there's nothing quite like enjoying a hot mug of Glühwein by a roaring fire on a cold Winter night. Life is good...

Yes, unquestionably one of the supreme delights of the human condition.

There's plenty of unique and joyous experiences everywhere in the world.

I don't like muddled wine, no matter what form it takes. If I was really thirsty and there were no options, I'd have to hold my nose to get it down.
