Today they unveiled a new federal agency, tasked with keeping our country safe and secure. Apparently, all the previous bureaucracies who were tasked with doing exactly that must have actually been doing something else the whole time.

The "US Dept. of Redundant Additional Departments" will do what all the others claim to do. Confuse us into the illusion of protection and security, while using a top-secret amount of your taxpayer dollars to do it!

So while the official story for 9/11 maintains that we were too compartmentalized and divided to realize we shouldn't let people bring weapons onto planes despite historical decades of violent hijackings, we responded and made the DHS. We even made an agency just for the granny-groping involved in making sure nobody else ever brings weapons or apple juice or shoes onto planes again.

We've got the DHS, the NSA, the FBI, the ATF, the DEA etc.

The repetition of the word "Security" as the only substantive word across multiple acronyms should be a clue.

Now, without checking your wiki, do you guys know the difference between the DHS and the NSA? Honestly? Do you know why additional bureaucracies were required?

And when all these guys and gals show up on the crime scene, proudly wearing their windbreakers displaying their three letters, who gets to decide who represents there? Like does the FBI have to play paper-rock-scissors (or crackpipe-warrant-gun or equivalent game of chance) with the DEA to see who gets to kick in the doors necessary to take down an interstate narcotics and firearms ring?

Does the ATF not jump in and say, but it's guns, therefore it's for us!

And "tobacco"??? What tobacco laws are they enforcing? I suppose inspecting for the crossing the i's and dotting the t's regarding duty-dodging and tax deception over cigarette labels goes hand-in-hand with storming the compound of a religious nutter with hundreds of guns and hostages and then torching the place.

I think it's just the monster of the federal government further gorging itself on additional undue power acquisition until it vomits out oppression and (*)(*)(*)(*)s out tattered remnants of the US Constitution.

If the federal government were meant to have the powers which today are currently assigned, then the Constitution would have been 295,328,820 pages long, and that's not including the advertisements.

Call each of them, and tell them you think they're all the same, and should be eliminated in funding...

They'll come and set you straight.

DHS is the umbrella agency to which all security agencies are supposed to report NSA is repsonsible for foreign wireless intercepts. A quite handy outfit in war time that has existed since WWII when radio communication became the dominant way that HQ units contacted and coordinated the movement of their troops in the field.

The FBI is to investigate federal crimes of which there are now far too many and is also tasked with counter inteligence operations within the borders of the USA.

The ATF will also be the people tasked with making sure you've paid your federal marijuana tax as well once pot gets legalized. They also are tasked with preventng interstate trade in illegal fire arms, federal taxes on alcohol have been paid, and investigating when explosives are used in a crime in the USA.

DEA is the easiest of all they enforce federal drug laws.

There are a good many jurisdictional disputes among these agencies because crime isn't always easy to compartmentalize.

Almost all the rest of the federal bureacracy outside the pentagon are tasked with overseeing some sort of social welfare program including the Department of agirculture.
