I seen something like that for sale at Walmart for 850$. I do not know if it is a 5.56, but I know a 5.56 is what I want. Right now all I have at home is 3 shotguns, 2 rifles, and 1 handgun.

~Edit~ And my best weapon. Red Ryder BB Gun

If you build it you will save $100 - $200. Its easy. Maybe an hour your first time.

lol what, I live on a farm, the closest gun stores are an hour or more away, except for 1. I want to go there again.

Where could I buy it to make it at home? I'd love to do that.

I'd suggest finding a copy of the Shotgun News...they'd have everything you're looking for.

Shotgun News is a gun trader's magazine. It mainly consists of gun ads.

Remember, a magazine is not the same thing as a "clip", and I don't know of any 1911 that was ever configured to be fed by a clip. Some people think it silly to make the distinction, but "clips" and "magazines" are NOT the same thing.

I felt the same way as you for a long time. I made the jokes right along with anyone else: "9mm is a .45 set on stun!" But, the technology of defensive ammunition has grown by leaps and bounds, and if you compare the top 9mm load with the top .45 load today they are practically a wash in terms of effectiveness. Remember, ANY handgun round is underpowered for defense; we use handguns because they are what is conveniently portable for unanticipated attack. If you know a fight is coming, you will grab a rifle or shotgun. With handguns it is all about shot placement.

I will be getting a CHL the day I turn 21 also, whether it is legal or not. ;)

But seeing as I live in Texas, I'll probably be ok.

    Oh ok.

I guess you make a point lol. What is between a .45 and a 9mm? The reason I like a .45 is mainly the looks and power, but the .357 we have is just over-kill to me. I mean, it's a great weapon, but jez, like shooting a cannon at a squirrel.

I live in Tennessee, so far that I know, our law is pretty lax, I hope.

    Oh ok, thanks.

Take your money buy yourself a hooker for your birthday and pop your cherry. My bet is you wont even want to buy a gun after that.

Lots of options in between 9 and .45. .40 S&W is the primary choice of law enforcement, while some agencies have adopted the .357 SIG cartridge (basically just a .40 necked down to a 9mm). I happen to have a soft spot in my heart for the 10mm round as well, but that one's more an enthusiast's cartridge; you'd need to handload to be able to shoot it affordably.

I know what you mean about the looks of a .45; the 1911 was and is my first love when it comes to pistols.

.357 is a good round; the 125-gr. JHP was the closest thing to a "magic bullet" law enforcement had for many years. Properly loaded it is still a good choice; load it with .38 Specials for most home defense applications, stock it with Magnums when more authority is required. It's a tremendously versatile platform. If I could only own one handgun it would probably be a .357.

So, let me get this straight: you're telling a kid who is interested in pursuing a perfectly legal hobby to choose instead to commit a criminal act?

What, exactly, is your problem with guns, Ian?

Oh, I beg to differ. When man used guns sent from heaven to destroy the dinosaurs, they definitely got laid. Besides, my gun is bigger than yours, because you probably don't have one. Lets see if YOU can get a girlfriend without threatening her with violence!

    ...

    And do it sober.
