Religion is in the process of being discarded. We're still fighting science denial in some areas, but I have hope for a better tomorrow. I believe our race will survive the churches and the GOP.

False. There is no evidence for any deities. The question of whether or not there exists a deity or deities is itself unjustified, because absolutely no phenomenon compels us to ask such a question other than our own fragile emotional needs.

Along those lines within the next century leftists will insist that medical science implant all newborns with regulatory chips to help prevent the onset on the sort of 'mental instability' that leads to a belief in anything beyond -- say -- the communist manifesto. The problem with Stalin and Mao and Pol Pot and Marxist/Socialist et.al. is that they tried the equivalent with humanity before the technology was developed to make it a reality. Future leftists will address that ideological error. Problem solved.

 

Although I am an atheist I thought as you when I opened this thread that I'm not bothered by religions. But then I considered the impact evangelicals are having with some of their horrible and often loony ideas they are pushing on the rest of us, like their brainless support for Trump. I keep hoping religion will crumble under the weight of science. Maybe some day.

Hell is permanent torture if you believe it. You'll escape global warming by death but indifference to it will sentence your children and grandchildren to life-long suffering.

 

Nancy Pelosi had FIVE KIDS because "God blessed her". IOW because she's a Catholic, she and her husband didn't use contraceptives.

By and large most Catholic women are telling the bishops, the most of whom are gay and going to hell by their own doctrine, to go straight to hell.

 

Religion has some good lessons but I can't adhere to a belief that relies on faith and suspends critical thinking.

 

And what about the crusades? What about Islamic extremist? Religion can make people blindly follow a concept and that makes it dangerous.
