I agree they have become more permissive as far as social policy goes, but permissive social policy is not something the left owns.

None of those compare the same group as they age with specific numbers. Isolated opinions do not define the entire person. I have become more liberal towards environmental and social issues, but I have become more conservative fiscally. Mixes change, but I have become more conservative overall.

For example. Compare percent of twenty year olds who leaned liberal in 1969 versus percent of seventy year olds who lean liberal on 2019.

 

There is a chart that does show that liberalism is at an all time high. Since the percentage of elderly in the population has also increased this would appear to suggest that older people are on average becoming more liberal. Doe not of course provide absolute proof.

 

That is not what I am talking about. On average, a person who was liberal in 1969 at age twenty is more apt to become more conservative in 2019 at age seventy. Overall, we might tend to be more liberal, but people tend to become more conservative as they age.

That fallacy has been debunked since it is a MISPERCEPTION.

Society becomes more liberal over time which is what creates this PERCEPTION but the reality is that whatever liberal ideas were embraced when young are NOT going to change as you age. People still support the liberal concepts of their youth as they grow older.

 

My personal experiences are very relevant. I seriously doubt that I am the only person whose interests have changed over the past fifty years.

I am not obligated to prove anything. Just picking a few examples does not prove anything because peoples interests change.

 

Society might have generally become more liberal, but in no way does that mean that an individual becomes more liberal as he ages.

Class of 1961 here, today's political/economic state is deplorable at best. Where the dying middle class gives way to a gentrification of the US by the increasing wealth of the upper classes and the ever increasing pools of the poorer people shut out by corporate greed which runs our govts. to their advantage.
