Ever wonder which countries around the world spend the most time reading?

The U.S. came in No. 22 on the list with the average time spent reading per week per person clocking in at 5 hours and 42 minutes.

Does this surprise anyone? We live in a media society. And, I wonder just what the reading is considered to be.

I've heard Iceland has a bunch of bookworms, so I'm surprised they weren't colored in on the map...

Shame, though, for us. Not that I'm one to talk- I read before and between classes, usually for my classes, unless I've gotten ahead on my homework. And even then I try to look up the news and stuff so I can stay somewhat informed...I do try to keep a book on hand for pleasure reading, anyway, but I can't say I read for fun for longer than a couple hours per week.

In one of my classes, the girl next to me commented on the fact that I was reading a real book (for fun) before the lecture began. That kind of says something, if out of an auditorium of college students, only one wasn't playing on an electronic device of some sort...

Though, reading on the internet is still reading. Actually, I often read the first couple chapters of books online, and if I really enjoy it or want a hard copy, I go buy the actual book. Not to mention, I get my news from the internet. And then come here to debate it.

Reading is good, but internet and TV (in moderation!) are not always bad- it just depends on the use, time spent using them, etc.
