Cause this is what urban liberal leaders do. Is it any wonder Detroit went all the (*)(*)(*)(*) ?

This would be funny if the City of Detroit was not literally going off every cliff. Largest municipal bankruptcy in the history of the Republic. A murder rate approximately 5 times that of Chicago. And what's on the agenda ? A Zimmerman resolution ?

This is what liberal leadership does. Can't make this up.

I think every Democrat that wants to divert attention from their own failure is still wasting time whipping up the angry blacks and guilt-ridden whites with Thugon Martin.

I can;t believe that Carlos Danger hasn't put on a big hoodie and a little hoodie to show support.

They're black and they get to spend white people's money. Not surprised.

How very typical of Fox Noise.

They know full well that the City Council has been robbed of the power to govern its own finances by a state appointed Emergency Manager.

So, they have been reduced to being figureheads by state law.

Fox is pandering to its audience and counting on most of them being too stupid to understand that the City Council has no power under this arrangement. Fox can blame them for not doing what they don't have the power to do, and their audience will eat it up because it panders to their stereotypical view.

This is what right wing media does. They made it up.

Not stupid. Hypnotized - fixated - preoccupied - entranced. In sore need of a wider perspective where reality (vs. agenda) can be better perceived and then prioritized.

I should clarify my earlier comment. The really stupid people are the voters who elected these clowns in the first place. But in a democracy voters have the right to be stupid.

I understand. And I'm not so sure that there are anything but "clowns" running for political office anymore, if it were ever any different. Politicians are basically con artists. OK - not all of them. But an inordinate proportion, IMO. Maybe (and it's a big maybe) they started out with lofty goals and a little integrity. But it's just a matter of time until even the decent ones are forced to play the game of BSing at every turn. Politics is fundamentally the art of BSing.

Detroit has the same number of government employees at a population of 700,000 than it did when when the population was 2,000,000.

There was never any attempt to reign in spending...they are now faced with billions...yes B as in billions of pension liabilities.

    Yet Conservatives are blamed?

You will never hear a Liberal admit to failed policies...this is the true tragedy. Detroit could have implemented some sort of austerity measures, they saw the writing on the wall..with a dwindling population and tax base...yet did nothing. It's the equivalent of lemmings go over the cliff...one by one...right over the cliff.

The story is deliberately intended to blame the Detroit City Council for not solving a problem they don't have the power to solve.

I doesn't matter that they're doing a Treyvon Martin resolution. It's meaningless. So, there's not story there that's worth reporting on.

Unless the objective was to pander to the bigots.

This is so massively partisan and uninformed. Detroit's leaders over the last 50 years. every liberal one of them, caused this massive debacle, by not responsibly addressing Detroit's problems as they developed.

This Zimmerman Resolution is just one more example of how stupid urban liberal leaders are, and have been, exactly as the pragmatists have been saying. In fact, this is so unbelievably stupid of liberals that we couldn't make it up.

Further, an excuse that they have nothing better to do, now that they (*)(*)(*)(*)ed everything up, so they might as well do stupid stuff, is also something we can't make up. But there it is !!

Thanks Fitz. The gift that keeps giving ..........

    No.
Tom's just whining about the source.

Has to get that "Right wing" jab in.

The Detroit City Council is full of idiots, always has been, they failed their city, an emergency manager was put in place by the governor because the Mayor and city council wouldn't provide a budget. They were asked numerous times by the Governor. Well, he had enough, the poor people in the city were suffering, the city council was getting paid to do nothing, and they got mad when a Manager was put in place.

It was too late. Just as Obama promised he wouldn't let happen.... Detroit went bankrupt.

It doesn't matter what power the City Council does or doesn't have at this point.... they are wasting time trying to decide the Zimmerman case.

    From Detroit's Lefty Newspaper:
The Detroit City Council on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution calling for a federal investigation
to see whether civil rights charges are warranted against George Zimmerman

The City is drowning, but they can still worry whether or not Zimmerman is guilty.
Maybe they can "lack the funds" to pay them for their time making this decision... and maybe fix a street lamp, or 2.

Wow, that's pretty harsh. Are you saying that because city council are Black liberals they are powerless and incapable of leading?

Those worthless figureheads could now be trying to hold the criminals in their own city accountable.

Getting away with murder is the norm in Detroit
Police chief calls city's closure rate 'abysmal'
Charlie LeDuff / The Detroit News
    Detroit

At least 7 in 10 people who committed murder in this city last year have gotten away with it.

The most generous interpretation of 2008 homicide warrants and convictions supplied by local law enforcement officials shows that in more than 70 percent of homicide cases no suspect has been identified, arrested, charged or convicted of a killing.

One big problem with the premise of the OP. Under the emergency director law that has been imposed on Detroit, Council has been stripped of all actual power, they cannot spend a dime on their own authority, they cannot order a pothole filled, or even investigate problems in the city departments. So nothing they do has any effect on anything.

So why are they still there and still being paid if they basically have nothing to do? Why not lay them off?

Under Michigan's Emergency Manager Law, when Snyder appointed the Emergency Manager, he stripped the mayor and city council of all legal power. They can't even order toilet paper for the restrooms.

Because the Governor does not have the power to actually remove them from office, just strip them of actual authority and power to do anything.
