So let’s see...I’m told by progressives often we are to make our own arguments here on PF. So I’ve demonstrated two gross errors by your author. One historical on the role of white Christianity in abolition of slavery. The other a misunderstanding or misrepresentation of core tenets of Christianity. You reply that I should buy a book by someone already known to be ignorant and/or dishonest.

Then when the so called research is called into question, instead of providing data or proof of peer review you appeal to the authority of other members of racist organizations and the education of the author at racist organizations.

I assume you tried to lead in the OP with your strongest argument from the author’s work. Well, it’s pretty weak as I’ve demonstrated. The fact he’s been interviewed by CNN doesn’t impress me when he’s clearly incorrect. Besides, CNN interviewed Fidel Castro. That doesn’t make me believe everything Castro said. :)

You have already tacitly ACKNOWLEDGED in your own content to being UNINFORMED about the authors RESEARCH and subsequently you PRETENDED that there had been NO peer reviews of said research either.

I PROVED you to be WRONG on BOTH counts by providing CREDIBLE independent SOURCES that VALIDATED the RESEARCH that you admitted to having ZERO knowledge of yourself.

Your FAILED attempts to denigrate the author with NOTHING but your own UNINFORMED opinion carry no weight whatsoever. Furthermore you FAILED to prove that there was anything wrong with what he has RESEARCHED.

All you did was REINFORCE the FACT that White American Christians have a BLIND SPOT when it comes to their embrace of white supremacy.

Given that the OP has been credibly SUBSTANTIATED the ONUS is now entirely on YOU to provide something other than your own OPINION to support your untenable position on this matter.

    Have a nice day!

You have provided other people’s opinions. No peer reviewed formal data. I accept your concession. Stay well.

Asinine kneejerk denialism of CREDIBLE Peer Reviews is YOUR concession on this topic, not mine.

Duly noted FTR that you are UNABLE to refute ANY aspect of the author's RESEARCH.

    Sad!

What research? You haven’t supplied any? Peer review isn’t random opinions. LOL

And you can’t defend the errors of the author you posted that I pointed out? Why? If facts matter, you would now denounce this clown because I’ve shown he’s ignorant of the subject he pontificates on.

Only in your own UNINFORMED opinion!

Robert P Jones is eminently QUALIFIED in this area of research

    https://www.prri.org/staff/robert-p-jones-ph-d/

Here is a link to some of his other research which is in alignment with that of similar research.

    https://www.prri.org/research/parti...indings-from-the-2018-american-values-survey/

Now let's look at WHO has PEER REVIEWED his work as supplied in a prior post in this thread.

    Eddie S. Glaude Jr., James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor of African American Studies, Princeton University;

    Michael Eric Dyson, University Professor of Sociology, Georgetown University;

The Very Reverend Kelly Brown Douglas, Dean of Episcopal Divinity School at Union Theological Seminary; Canon Theologian, Washington National Cathedral

Trying to PRETEND that those are NOT Robert Jones PEERS is ABSURD but it is SAD that is all you have.

And it is utterly BIZARRE that you are PRETENDING that he is "ignorant" when it is patently OBVIOUS that it is YOU that has FAILED to even READ the links provided when you could have done so and dispelled your own DEARTH of Subject Matter Knowledge BEFORE doing your own UNINFORMED pontificating.

If you and this 'researcher' are trying to make the point that there have been Christians who did very bad things in their lives -- like owning slaves -- then your point is made! What could disagree with that? Oh, it may not be a shocking, ground-breaking revelation, but it could be supported, amply, by both history and facts. So far, so good... right?

But to try to establish some new 'beachhead' accomplishment in the background cause supporting "White Guilt", 'reparations', and all the rest of this 'get Whitey' nonsense using Christianity as the 'force' for your 'lever' is so obviously 'a guilt-trip too far'....

This whole hypothesis that Christianity itself promotes "White Supremacy" is a baseless lie, Te. Attack Christianity however you wish, and as a self-professed atheist you surely know you have an impressive 'arsenal' at your disposal. But, not THIS laughably imaginary conjecture! Find another 'crack in the wall' of Christianity to stick your wrecking-bar into. You'll have more success....

Your 'researcher' personifies the ancient descriptor, "Vox et praeterea nihil". And as well-educated as you usually seem to be, I'll bet you know what THAT is....

Do you have a quote of Jesus on that?

    /sigh!

I had hoped that you would STOP posting asinine STRAWMAN nonsense, Cy.

    So much for that happening!

At this stage it is patently clear that you do have a blind spot and NOTHING that I post is going to make any difference so thanks for participating in this thread.

    Take care and stay safe.

Not sure what peer review is actually supposed to do. You would have to ask Golem, but according to Golem, they do not review for accuracy.

When I was going through my most spirited phase of 'hating-on' Christianity, I focused on the Roman Catholic Church -- especially as it was during the Inquisition. Although, admittedly, it was 'easy prey', I entertained myself and others for many hours holding forth on all the hypocrisy, venality, and vicious, manipulative practices of Roman Catholicism, going all the way up to the Pope.

I suggest that tack to you now as an alternative to this 'weak sauce' nonsense of trying to paint all of Christianity with an accusation that it promulgates "White Supremacy". We may be far apart spiritually, Te, but I have suspected for a long time that we are not so very far apart intellectually.

All the very best to you -- and in addition to wearing a mask, I continue to highly recommend using 5mm nitrile gloves when you handle anything in a public place. They used to be commonly available at a low price at all hardware stores, and are far more durable than those made of vinyl.

So your definition of peer reviewed research is this:
    1) Found an organization and put the word “research” in the name.
    2) Conduct your own research
    3) Get your buddies to read it and write glowing recommendations
    4) Publish it yourself under the organization you founded
    5) Have people on Internet forums try to convince other people you are legit, even when what you say is easily shown to be incorrect historically and ecclesiastically

Ok. I read your original link. I quoted it and showed the gross error it contained. Have fun reading that stuff dude. That’s all it’s good for is entertainment.

Just remember your definition of peer review will come back to haunt you when it comes to other subjects on PF. :)

    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Regurgitating your own FAILED allegations because you are UNABLE to REFUTE a single word of any of it with CREDIBLE sources?

Your UNINFORMED OPINION is utterly IRRELEVANT.

But then you COMPOUND your FAILURES with yet ANOTHER bovine excrement allegation that you CANNOT substantiate either!

    That is just so SAD!

And yes, this will come back to haunt YOU as have all of your PRIOR failures to substantiate your BOGUS allegations in the past,

I pointed out two errors. Why don’t you try and discuss the blatant errors you posted. I’ve posted facts. You are unable to address them.

Please explain why you appeal to the authority of organizations like the Southern Baptist’s your sources say are racist. Please explain why you believe everything this man says when in the small amount of text you’ve supplied I’ve found two major errors. Until you can address these errors anything you post is meaningless. I judge content by whether it’s true or not. This stuff is clearly not true.

You can’t defend the false things you post. You never can. You always appeal to authority or create diversions. What you posted and I replied to is false information. Full stop. Defend it intellectually or I’m out. I’m too busy with reality for garbage based on misinformation like what you’ve posted.

For the record, you still have not demonstrated his research is peer reviewed. That is a standard you have been adamant about in other discussions.

Sigh...there is no monolithic Christianity in America. There are tons of different denominations and many different ideologies in those denominations. Unless they think White Baptists are the same as Black Baptists churches.

MY position has been SUBSTANTIATED with CREDIBLE sources.

YOUR position is based entirely on your own UNINFORMED OPINION!

That you are CONSISTENTLY failing to produce anything other than your uninformed opinion is NOT my problem.

I do UPHOLD your right to your uninformed opinion HOWEVER it is common knowledge that opinions are WORTHLESS unless they can be INDEPENDENTLY factually substantiated.

Since your are UNABLE to provide anything that only HARMS your credibility on this matter.

    Sad!

Oh, so its research team out there looking for racism and somehow found racism? Color me shocked. But again, if you think all white Christianity is the same across the spectrum is insanity. Catholics are majority democrat, and the others span both parties.

That comment you highlighted does not change the intent of the post. There is no monolithic Christianity in America. There are literally hundreds of different denominations and they tend to view things very differently.

That is not what he is saying. Racism exists, but it is far from the prevalent attitude among Christians. In my experience, it is rare among the Christian churches in the US.

I supplied a reference. I said it was a starting point and you can follow links to it’s footnotes.

I like to let you make a false claim repeatedly before correcting you sometimes. In post #123 I gave you a source. I gave you the opportunity to learn what anyone who should be discussing this topic already knows. You failed to read the link and now you claim falsely (repeatedly) my views are unsupported. Your refusal to read my links does not mean they don’t exist.

Furthermore, you have not substantiated any of your claims. Only appealed to authority.

Go read my link. Check out the sources in the footnotes. Educate yourself. Come back and defend the false claims made by your author in the OP.

Go read. Go learn. Then come back and try and discuss the issue.

I can supply scripture references to refute the claim the author made on salvation. But if you request them you are tacitly admitting you are ignorant of the subject you try and educate me on. Up to you.

I am glad that you know the mind of God. You are a truly impressive human. Since you are communicating with him on a one to one basis, could you get an answer directly from him for the following question:
Can Jesus create a stone so large that even Jesus could not pick it up?

I am looking forward to Jesus's answer to the above question. Let me know what he tells you. Also if you don't mind, could you ask Jesus to lend me the special gift that he has bestowed on you?
