They could do worse than Harris.

That said, regardless how one feels about Biden personally (or whether or not he would be a viable nominee), the Dem Race can't start (in earnest) until he makes a decision (one way or the other).

What strengths would Biden bring? Would he be better than Harris in some way? Harris has a strong record to run on, she is younger, and she meets the minority quota :D

    The point is this:

The Big Dem Donors aren't gonna jump to donate to anyone until after Biden says if he is in or out.

And for people like Harris, Beto, Etc. it is all about winning the Primary money race.

I see. But what is to stop us discussing the virtues of each candidate and potential candidate now?

    Nothing.

I am just saying that the Dem Race is an entirely different sort of thing (depending on whether or not Biden runs).

Sanders getting in would also suck a lot of oxygen away from Harris, etc.

I wonder if they'll take her entry as a sign to back off, then. Do they have any major disagreements on policy or anything that might make them want to enter the race anyway?

I don't much about Biden yet, to be honest. I hadn't heard of him before he became Obama's VP, and then he was as quiet and uninteresting as a VP tends to be, goofy comment about firing a shotgun to scare off home invaders aside. :D

Big donors are no longer a factor for campaign funding.

Act Blue has changed that all around and Progressives OUTRAISED big donors in the Midterms using this method.

    https://secure.actblue.com/

    https://www.dallasnews.com/news/201...utpacing-cruz-2-1-texas-race-hits-100-million

So Biden big money donors are not that important for any Progressive wanting to run an insurgent campaign in the Dem primaries.

The Dems don't have a candidate that will be able to avoid going way far left during the primaries.

Today, Bernie called Trump a racist at a conference in South Carolina. The same Bernie who lost to Hillary there 26% to 74% in the 2016 primary.
So Bernie might do better in the SC primary, but he also has shot himself in the foot for the general election.

And because of this kind of primary, Trump will mop any of them up during the general election.

I must say the more I see of Kamala Harris the more impressed I am, she could be the girl. Biden would be disastrous, he's run twice before and crashed and burned both times.

How? The GOP increased its' majority in the Senate, maintained the majority of governorships and suffered far less Congress losses than Barack and Bill did who went on to be handsomely re-elected?

Biden could deliver the white blue collor vote, aka the deplorables.

According to the NY Times, Harris is not especially progressive:

I like Harris because I think she is smart. But I don't think we want to swim upstream this election.
So my pick is Beto with Harris as VP. Besides I want to see her debate Pence. :)
I also don't think the Dems need to look to far to their left if they have a young guy. The only primaries Bernie won were caucus states. I'm not sure he won one straight up vote.

I would actually say the other way around, Harris on the ticket, Beto as VP, he's younger than her and can succeed her as Bush did Reagan?

I could go with that, but I think there are still a lot of guys that don't want a woman President. So I hate to give away the votes. Having her as VP would still attract the chicks to vote for the ticket.

Finally, Emerson tests the Democratic presidential waters and finds Elizabeth Warren far out in front with 43% among those who have already announced. That leaves Joe Biden off the list, but Kamala Harris trails badly at 19%, while Kirsten Gillibrand’s 9% falls three points behind Julián Castro. It’s not an auspicious start for the Democrats.....snip~

I really don't think that was an issue, despite what the TYT claim this was not a vote against women, it was a vote against one woman.

That's true for sure, but I still think there is resistance to a woman President. Same invisible reason they don't make as much money for the same job.
