Not being able to buy a house is a result of failing to adjust your circumstances to the economy. Houses will always be available to those who are prepared to make those adjustments (regardless of their income). The 'divide' is therefore self-inflicted.

    Bingo!

And let's not forget, non-rich people actually think they should be able to live wherever they want - as though beggars can be choosers. Add that to the absurdly oversized houses requiring constant climate control and maintainence, and hey presto .. financial ruin.

The blue dog democrat, i.e. classic liberal is an extinct species within the DNC. Thus, the notion of reading across the aisle to the far left current day DNC is not an acceptable option for some.

    Thus, the divide.

The Modern Democratic Party thrives on dividing :flagus:.

Witness their special population appeal rallies.
Witness how frequently they emphasize our differences rather than our unity.

What part do I have incorrect?

We could solve our diversity problem if we make irvagainst the law for two people of the same race, or religion, or ethnic group, or skin color, or political philosophy to get married or even to have sex. We should ban the words "excuse me" when two people accidently bump into each other. That would do wonders in reducing PC.

Then we ban political parties, sport team logos, and allow people to speak one and only one language. We then ban clothes of different colors and sizes one color / size fits all. Only one kind of food shall be consumed and we have one and only one religion that the government will pick for us.

After all this diversity crap has got to go.

Why are you wishing for a decrease in income?

You mean like go move to Oklahoma and don't try thrive in California?

Or find an affordable home in California and commute two and a half hours
each way to and from work. And be further vilified for being only able
to afford a gasoline driven automobile.

Go move to Northern Territory, I understand lots of inexpensive homes there!

    No wishing for an increase..

For the most part when it comes to the wages vs rich people argument mostly what i see is rich people complaining about other rich people.
My wife and I had our best year in 2018 39,000.
This year with a move to Colorado, much much worse.

You would make a good study.
Do you live in a low cost area?

    Yeah,
Houses are way bigger. No question about that.

Lived most of my life in Colorado. Nice place, but it isn't cheap on the eastern slope.
High tech and oil are good places to look.

When haven't we been a divided nation?
We even had a civil war.
Maybe during the WW's, we came together more as a nation. But we've always had division.

Faux tv is also fake news.
All 24/7 reality tv that does political BS is fake news. Err, really, opinion pieces.
Meant to pander to their audience. You know, they make money by getting viewers/clicks so they can sell ads?

IMO, that's the only way we get a middle class again.
Or corps pay wages to grow a middle class, not likely to happen. Profit thing.

Congratulations. Without understanding how or why you provided a PERFECT example of how & why America is divided - the pathological need to blame the 'other' for what is wrong. It isn't Obama or Trump or Bush or the Clintons or Fox or CNN or Democrats or Republicans or Liberals or Conservatives. It is YOU. It is your fault & the fault of everyone whose first reaction to the question you posed is to blame someone else.

America is divided because Americans have decided to divide themselves. Americans have decided not to associate with people who disagree with them. Americans have decided not to listen to each other or respect each other. Americans have decided to only consume information that tells them what they want to hear. Americans have chosen to ignore any & all wrong doing by their designated tribe while magnifying the slightest wrongdoing, real or imagined, by the 'other'.

Worst of all, Americans point blank refuse to take responsibility for their own actions. It is always the fault of the 'other side'. 'They' started it. 'They' made me do it. 'They', 'they', 'they'. Not a shred of responsibility taken, only blame given. Spend a day on this or any other politics website without ideological blinkers on and you will see people of every persuasion doing it.

Not all Americans are like this, of course, but far too many are and far too few acknowledge it is even a problem. Want to understand the problem? Look in the mirror. Then look at anyone who agrees with you. Then work out from there. You can choose to be different or you can choose to keep behaving the same way. That is where the division of America begins & that is how it ends. Your choice.

I think some of it also comes from lower tax rates for the wealthy and corporations.
It's much easier to just buy back your stock with profits than to need to invest in the future for continued growth. Same with personal income. No need for risk.

I see that America is divided by their own Trump anger . Life begins by creation and being created in a present America isn't a good thing . I think you're due a civil war.

Unskilled auto labor was a big one.
    Many mfg jobs were unionized.
One of the reasons the right killed unions, as well as unions got to big for their britches, and signed free trade agreements to allow mfg jobs to ship out of country.
