Americans, or maybe just humans in general, seem to have a sort of gang mentality. We like to disagree with the other side so much that many people just disagree with whatever the other group says. People seem to lose their own beliefs and simply disagree with the other side.

I see this in politics, but also in other places. I recently had a discussion about religion and atheism, and it seems that many atheists define themselves not by their beliefs, but by what they don't believe in. I guess I just don't get it. I don't want to be defined by what I'm not, but by what I am.

Even being part of a group or political party means that we disagree with the other side just because they are on the other side.

    I just don't understand it.
