I sometimes get bad headaches. A friend suggested an advil and a coke. It worked pretty darn well.

The other day I had another headache, but only had pepsi, figuring it was the same thing, I drank the pepsi with an advil, it didn't work.

So what is in Coke that get rid of headaches?

    Caffeine. Plain and simple.
For some people, it actually makes it worse, so it all depends. I usually make a cup of tea or coffee.

Between Pepsi and Coke, I don't know if the caffeine content is different, so you could try coffee/tea. If you already drink a fair amount of caffeine, you might need something with more caffeine in it to have any effect.

pepsi has more caffeine than coke so your headache most likely had different causes...a headache brought on by muscle tension wont be helped by drinking coke or pepsi...

An MD friend gave me the same advice for hangovers(dehydration), he said its the sugar and water in the drink that helps...md's often recommend ginger ale or 7up to restore electrolytes when ill...

The sugar in it helps, too. Goody's and BC Powder is basically powdered caffeine.

Take a Tylenol and drink as much water as possible before you crash after drinking. It is better than playing catch up once you wake up (yeas I know alcohol and Tylenol causes dementia is rats or something like that)

I've suffered bad headaches and migraines since I was a kid. Just this last few months we've solved the problems with medication (prescription). But what I found was a double edge sword because my diet consisted of drinks with caffeine. Getting too much causes headaches and so does getting too little. No fix to getting too much and ending up with a headache, but getting too little is easy to fix with a soda, coffee or tea.

Headaches are tough to figure out. I'm in my 40s and only this year figured it out by working with my doctor and quite a few visits. If you're getting them frequently it may be worth looking into. I haven't had one in over 3 weeks and I could have said that for the previous 40+ years. Living on ibuprofen or Tylenol causes serious wear and tear...discovered during an endoscopy.

Headaches are typically caused due to a lack of nutrients going to the brain including sugars.

Soft drinks like in general can alleviate this. You'll find that you drink more when you have to deal with more mentally demanding tasks.
It's inadvisable to keep drinking them if you suffer from a weak heart as it can raise your blood pressure.
If you're worried about the damage caused to the teeth then what you can do is consume dairy products like cream, milk or cheese which will neutralise the acid in your mouth that's caused by soft drinks. Also you shouldn't brush immediately after as it strips away at the outer protective layer of the tooth. This also applies to wine as well.
But generally it's better to drink water.

However if you keep getting recurring headaches then it's quite possible that you may have something wrong with you and you should see you local GP.

You are a hopeless drug addict (caffeine) and the withdrawals from your addiciton manifest themselves as blinding headaches.

Have a look at 'Excedrin Migraine'. In a single dose, it contains aspirin, acetaminophen (Tylenol), and caffeine. I, being a hopelessly addicted caffeine junky myself, always keep some on hand. Interestingly, I also suffer from migraines, and Excedrin Migraine does absolutely NOTHING to alleviate them. For that I take Imitrex.

I suffer migraines alot but tonight was deffinetly by far the worst ive experienced. My head felt as tho it was due to explode the pressure and pain was unreal no meds were helping it was just getting worse i couldnt lie down to try sleep it off as everytime i lay down the pain increased! 5 hours later with pain ive never felt before my partner came in with a bottle of cola and i took a drink not to much a few sips and within 5 to 10 mins it was almost gone. Im not sure if this was maybe just down to sugar, but either way im greatful for that cola!

Caffeine. Not sure why Pepsi didn't work.

with aspirin and acetaminophen (in the case of Good'ys the extra strength has both). BC powder has aspirin and caffeine. Being powdered helps them dissolve and get digested faster.

Probably the battery-like acid in the coke just ate the area of your brain away that was in pain
