Maybe a dislike button would provide enough of an outlet that folks would feel less of a need to vent to you mods about their hurt feewings.
I've explained my personal reasons for not wanting a dislike button but those are just the opinions of me personally. Other members of the Staff should chime in on this discussion in your thread in the Feedback forum at some point.
Maybe they don't want this place turning into reddit where users will PM each other on what threads to downvote en masse. You say there are no associated consequences, but there would be from forum members that have nearly all of their posts disliked. Think about it. People going around disliking or singling out members posts could have a negative effect on these forums. Just a thought.
Wrong,*Independents account for around 20 % of the voting public. With an average of around 40 % for Democrats and 40% for Republicans. Give or take a few % pts. each election cycle. * Or Independents + Moderates.
Are your words not cutting it? You have a perfect opportunity to dispute all they say. Dislike is redundancy.
You may want to look at the link. Here's another, but a couple years out of date: http://www.people-press.org/2018/03...tional-divide-in-voters-party-identification/ A new analysis of party identification, based on more than 10,000 interviews of registered voters conducted by Pew Research Center in 2017, finds that 37% of registered voters identify as independents, 33% are Democrats and 26% are Republicans.
As noted before people use the "report" button to show their dislike, so a dislike button would, indeed, be redundant.
Get real, half these people are frustrated they can't bury a hatchet in somebody's face over the internet.
Why is there no 'dislike' button? There is...we call it ignore. You can do it permanently with a click or mentally.
Now there's an idea: Each profile displays how many other profiles have them on ignore (no names, just a total) I am certainly interested to know my number.
You do have a point. And you don't, at the same time. YouTube is free. Facebook is free too. But they both have support. And when people report and demand change, they do it under pressure. I'm pretty sure at least once in your lifetime you contacted support of a completely free platform. That makes you a "freeloader" and worse, a hypocrite too. Just saying, before being too harsh on people! ON-TOPIC: A dislike button will bring a lot of hate since a lot of people will of course abuse it and target other users with concentrated hate and dislikes.
1. YouTube is free for me to watch all day long. 2. Facebook is free for me to use, send messages, post and share content. I'm talking about ME. It's free for me. So someone else is the product, so this can be free for me.
Some years ago I was a member on a site that had Like and Dislike buttons, and, like others have said, it was abused. The site admins eventually got rid of the Dislike button because of all the headaches it created. But some things deserve to be "Disliked". Perhaps if the techies could do it, each member could be allowed to "Dislike" one thing per day. Seth
TANSTAAFL I remember when Facebook first came out and an article pointed out that "when a website has no obvious product to sell, then you're the product" and that's been proven several times that Facebook is exploiting their members for profit. Most websites survive on ads. Political forums can have ads or donations.
How about a "FUNNY" button which could be aptly used in a variety of ways. - legitimately funny - inane / goofy - baseless / unsubstantiated - misguided / gullible - clueless / inept etc. etc. The point is that it would connote something other than 'agreement', but vague enough not to verge on overt disparagement (as per da rules) lol.
There is no dislike button, because dislike is completely obvious and shouldn't be rewarded with a button.
I definitely want more options than just 'Like' & they don't have to be signifying negativity either... - informative - funny - agree (like is too general & cuts down on feedback to exist as the only button)
I don't know, when someone gives me a like I just assume they are voting to make me Overlord of the Universe. Don't you?
