Maybe the sight is run by liberal democrats and they think everyone is a winner and should get a ribbon for competing. I "like" you.

I submit that, despite my best efforts, Not having a "funny" / "informative" BUTTON will end up with myself and others banned from PF. I have rashly posted something / gone back a sec. later & deleted it & still gotten in trouble, 'ex post facto'... We must have a contextually (subjectively / inferential) button to hit, instead of typing a reacting in the heat of the moment... imho, lol!

I want a "Melt" button. If I hit it, whomever I'm responding to has their computer melt down.

You have to be pretty bad when even bleeding-heart liberals think you're a loser. LOL!

For example, calling someone ignorant is an opportunity for that poster to educate themselves.

In this case, they sure do. ;) Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

They object to a man who called for the mass murder of tens of thousands of innocent people, torture, violence... Hard to see why people hate him.

On the other hand, Hillary called half of all trumpers deplorable. Death, torture, and violence, versus, name calling. Yeah, she's the real villain here.

Your hero Trump called Mexicans rapists and druggies while calling Third World nations "sh|tholes". He's the real villain here.

Youtube removed the dislike button after their '2018 year in review' release, which is the most disliked video on youtube...made by youtube.

They kept wearing out, and it became too expensive to keep replacing them.

Interesting thread topic with some informed responses.

As someone who was a member of a forum that had a "dislike" button I can assure you that it was heavily abused to the point of "gangs" using it to discourage "noobs" who had the temerity to post their own political opinion. It became a distraction to the purpose of having a political discussion.

Unlike our staff here at PF the staff at that forum took sides with the "gangs" and as a result the entire forum spiraled into disrepute. It no longer even makes it into the top 25 Alexa rankings.

So my advice to the OP is that you already do have options to "dislike" another post and that is by either reporting it if it contains a rule violation or disputing the content in your own response. Both of these options require that you put some thought into WHY you dislike what was posted as opposed to just clicking on a button.

Yes, that does make the "Like" button a simple way of agreeing with a post but if I consider something worthy enough I will take the time to post a supporting opinion or elaborate on what there was to like about the post.

The staff does a sterling job maintaining the high standards here at PF. If there was a vote for your "dislike" option I would vote against it because it would be a quick way to ruin this forum.

And if you don't believe me just send me a PM and I will direct you to the forum that I left and you can go and see for yourself what it has become.

Republicans = biggest welfare recipients anywhere

case in point: Bush's wars of imperialistic terrorism in Iraq & Afghanistan

Welfare and 'free stuff' aren't necessarily the same thing.

I agree with your 'safety nets' statement, but it goes a lot further than that these days.

i was the preeminent supporter of the dislike feature on this forum, i won the debate against an english opponent because i supported freedom.

however it was not legalised and taken away in favor of a more european model.

Out of curiosity, I just checked out those rankings again. PF had been a consistent #2, but it's now moved to the #1 spot. So, well done to the mods and staff.

Been on a forum before with a dislike button. If someone falls out with you, they go through your entire posts hitting the dislike button.

If you dislike a post, wise to just ignore it.
