The Senate will hold competing votes Thursday on Trump’s proposal to spend $5.7 billion on a border wall and on a Democratic bill that would fund the government through Feb. 8 without a wall, marking the first time the Senate has stepped off the sidelines to try to end the month-long government shutdown. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is endorsing Trump's proposal for the wall. Of course, he is not endorsing the bill put forth by the Democrats.

The Democratic bill is remarkably similar to a bipartisan bill passed in the Senate in December with Trump's commitment to sign it. Trump changed his mind the next day because Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity didn't like it. The Democratic bill will reopen the government until February 8, put the federal workers back to work, and provide them with their back pay while encouraging both sides to come together and try to come up with a compromise.

The Democratic bill is remarkably similar to Republican Senator Lindsey Graham's ideas. “Before he pulls the plug on the legislative option, and I think we’re almost there, I would urge him to open up the government for a short period of time, like three weeks, before he pulls the plug, see if we can get a deal,” the South Carolina Republican said. “If we can’t at the end of three weeks, all bets are off.”

Wouldn't it be something if the Senate passed the Democratic House bill, and failed to pass Trump's bill? Wouldn't that be hoot. Actually, they did. They just have to do it again.

After all, who controls the Senate? Republican Senators or Trump?

 

Perhaps, but it wasn't just drugs that he claimed to be fighting was it? Also crime in the US and the rape of women and children by pieces of human waste as they cross the border. Besides, do you suppose that ALL drugs cross via a port of entry?

How is he ignoring the legislative branch of government? He hasn't invoked the emergency laws to build the wall has he?

And, if you cared about rape, you would pony up a little money so police departments could process rape kits rather than throwing them in the garbage after ignoring them for years.

 

A justification for the wall has not been formed. All we see is racist and emotional claims - with NO argument concerning how or even whether the unspecified wall segment would accomplish anything.

He is shutting down the government, holding Americans hostage in order to defeat the legislative branch of our government.

If our founders had wanted a dictatorship, they would have written THAT in the constitution, not what we have today.

show that they didn't previously consider it an emergency. The border has been an emergency for decades.

Just a guess....maybe they voted 1/2 dozen times to fund the govt. Trump can’t get his wall on its own merits, even with republicans. He has to hyjack the entire gov, to get his wall. That tells you he’s a fraud.
