Last Three Years Hottest on Record, UN Report Says
March 21, 2018 — The past three years were the hottest on record and heat waves in Australia, freak Arctic warmth and water shortages in Cape Town are extending harmful weather extremes in 2018, the United Nations said on Thursday.

What a bunch of pseudo-science nonsense...

The observations don't match the theory - at least until warmists get a hold of the data and manipulate to fit the theory.

That isn't science, it's GIGO fraud.

I imagine complex things like "thermometers" and "averages" do look like magic to certain primitive cultists.

Flat earthers say things like that about the evil fraudulent round earthers. You sound just like them.

Global warming denial is exclusively a right-wing fringe cult doctrine. It's purely political, and has nothing to do with science. If right wing extremist fringe politics didn't exist, denialism wouldn't exist. Denialism isn't the actual cult. Right-wing authoritarianism is the cult. Global warming denial is just a small part of that cult's reality-defying doctrine.

In contrast, mainstream climate science crosses all political boundaries all across the world, because it's science, as opposed to politics.

Here are but a few things AGW predicted and got right. This list is by no means exhaustive.

    - The global mean temperature will gradually increase as observed over many decades.
    - The NH will warm more than the SH.
    - The north pole will warm faster than any other region.
    - The diurnal temperature range will decrease.
    - The warming will be more pronounced during the night as opposed to the day.
    - The warming will be more pronounced during the winter as opposed to the summer.
    - The stratosphere will cool.
    - The global mean water vapor mixing ratio will increase.
    - Polar sea ice extents (especially the Arctic) will decrease.
    - Sea levels will rise.

No data has been manipulated to the fit the theory. Observations match predictions pretty well because the theory is grounded in reality. On the flip side observations diverge (often wildly) from alternative theories that ignore several know climate forcing mechanism (particularly the anthroprogenic ones) because those theories are not grounded in reality. For example, solar only theories predict that the Earth should be cooling and should have been doing so for decades. Instead the Earth is warming.

All the global warming people are all sitting now with egg on their face. Science is now finally coming around to the fact that we're entering a grand solar minimum. It's not a conspiracy, it's just a natural cycle of the sun. It will cause global "cooling" over a number of years which we are seeing the beginning of in 2018. It seems scientist and meteorologist were not accepting of this at first but now more and more are coming around since you can't ignore the facts and reality.

I was going to post links, but there are just too many to choose from, and the GW enthusiasts will attack the sources, so I dare you to google grand solar minimum or global cooling............... or better yet, pay attention to your weather.

I haven't even been able to plant yet. It's too cold in mid April. A couple of days ago, we had blowing snow, it was 20 degrees and will be in the 20's again this upcoming weekend. We went below 0 multiple times this past winter. Do I live in Minnesota? NO, I'm in northern Arkansas.

Some great YT channels with lots of info and interviews with scientists is Adapt 2030, Ice age farmer, and Oppenheimer Ranch project.

We are supposed to enter a cooling period. How is it anyone is selecting 'warmer'? Even if you believe in manmade global warming you should know temperatures pause or go down for a little bit.

Science has not "finally" come around to the fact that we're entering a grand solar minimum. This has been predicted for quite some time (maybe decades). It will not cause cooling. At best it will suppress the warming by a few tenths of a degree. And that's if it occurs at all. Refer to following publications for more information.

Understand that the research I linked to above is from bona-fide experts doing real research. It is not from some uneducated blogger who might not even understand some of the basic physics of the Sun or how our atmosphere behaviors.

It's a pretty small sample size in the poll for one thing. But, it was also for 2017 only. It actually turned out that 2017 was only the second warmest. But, yeah, the secular trend up will have periods of cooling. 2017 is a good example of this. 2018 may not even be able to take the crown. In fact, I'd be surprised if it did.

If it's not, they'll make sure the data says it is.

First, I'm not aware of any dataset that shows that 2017 was the warmest year ever.

Second, how would "they" be able to pull that off. All of the data is available to the public. Everyone gets to see how everyone else analyzes the data. I have a couple of questions for you.

What adjustments in the conventional surface station only datasets do you not agree with?

Why is that that the reanalysis datasets (which do not make any adjustments) overwhelmingly agree with each other and with the conventional datasets that do require adjustments?

Well first of all, we only have data from about 100 years.

Secondly, 100 years of weather data is not enough to develop global warming and cooling causes which happens in geological time.

Thirdly, there is no way to know what is causing the warming. The earth was warmer during the Minoan and Medieval time period. It does not stand to reason that humans during that time could have caused that, nor does it explain the cooling that followed both periods.

Fourthly, we have only had really precise measurements for the last 20 years or so. There is no way the data from the 1900's is accurate in the first place.

Which includes nearly 100% of the time period in which anthroprogenic global warming theory makes statements about the climate.

Correct. However, that is mostly irrelevant to AGW theory. Remember, AGW only makes statements about the global mean temperature after the industrial revolution. Namely, that humans are the primary cause for the warming especially after 1960.

I'm not saying that learning more about the climate in far past is useless. Quite the contrary. I think it is supremely important to learn as much as we can about Earth's past climate. And climate scientists have discovered ways of learning about the global mean temperature in the past. They aren't perfect. They aren't even as good as directly sensed observations. But, they are useful.

First, I'm curious...how can you claim the Earth is warming if you don't believe the data?

Second, this is the throw your hands up in frustration and say it's impossible attitude. I'm so glad our most revered scientists said "Huh...that's interesting" instead of "meh...not worth my time". The world is certainly a much better place because many of us have the desire to learn instead of the desire to give up. And no, it is not impossible to know what is causing the warming now. We actually have a pretty big list of known climate forcing mechanisms already.

That's debatable. But, let's assume for a moment that it is true. First, how could you possibly know this if you don't believe any of the data scientists are giving you? Second, that in no way prevents the Earth from warming up now.

It's not. The accuracy on the global mean temperature from 1900 is about 0.1C. The accuracy today is about 0.05C. And that's with conventional surface only datasets. Reanalysis is even more accurate.

Finally, you didn't actually answer any of my questions.

Frankly, I don't find AGW discussions to go anywhere, so I usually don't bother and don't have much interest in them, precisely for some of the reasons you gave.

Since AGW is only interested in about 60 years of data, they can't prove anything is related to it because they don't have another planet the same distance from the sun with a non-industrial society to compare it to.

Most of our true scientific advancements have not come from group consensus, but from an individual who broke the mold and was ridiculed for their efforts. The Wright brothers, Galileo, etc.

I never said the earth didn't warm. The earth has warmed and cooled from global jungle to global ice ball.....all before people could have had any influence at all, and has done so for millions of years.

GW nuts just will not accept that GW is not happening. And yes many scientist are finally admitting that the grand solar minimum is happening. It was ignored for a long time but now they can longer ignore what is happening.

Didn't Gore say our kids wouldn't know what snow was? You still going along with that?

I cannot accept that GW is not happening because there is no dataset in existence anywhere which computes a global mean temperature and which shows either a static value or a declining value for that metric. None. Not even one.

Yet there are dozens of datasets which show quite the opposite. These are datasets that are independently published using wildly different techniques using different subsets of the available data and yet they all agree that the Earth is warming.

I'm not sure if Gore said that or not. I don't pay much attention to him or what he has to say. He's not a climate scientist.

I am not "still going along with that" because I never went along with it to begin with.

Until giant cold blooded lizards can survive all year in North Dakota I think the hottest year evah is a bit out of reach...

Note that "hottest year ever" means since the period of instrumental record.

We had significantly less snow this winter here in Nova Scotia........
the least amount of snow that I can remember in my 58 years......
    We loved it........

Meh, I like snow but in Indiana, it is an every other year thing. This year we got the most snow in Spring but it did snow in May in 1954.
