finally be the scaffold on which the woke mafia hangs its self ? And what the hell is passive racism any way? Is it like damned if you do damned if you don't or does it just come down to, Well a white guy wrote it therefore it must be racist.

With any luck at all this will be the beginning of the end for cancel culture gooney birds being taken seriously by any one rational but I'm not holding my breath.

Maybe you should link to whatever you're talking about, for those of us who aren't up on the latest outrage.

Considering your posting history, it's probably more right-wing blather.

Here, gary. I'll help you out.

Scholastic ends distribution of book by "Captain Underpants" author for racist imagery against Asians - CBS News

Scholastic has halted the production of a children's book by "Captain Underpants" author Dav Pilkey, for the book's "passive racism." "The Adventures of Ook and Gluk," which was first published in 2010, will no longer be sold, Scholastic announced last week, adding that Pilkey was supportive of the decision.

The author supports the decision. Freedom at work.

some cavemen travel to the future and learn kung fu from an asian. some kids father was offended by the stereotypes and imagery. According to him, the offenses were- "Kung Fu master wearing what's purported to be a traditional-style Tang coat, dashes for eyes for the Asian characters, stereotypical Chinese proverbs, and a storyline that has the Kung Fu master rescued by the non-Asian protagonists using their Kung Fu skills (despite the fact that they were taught said skills from the supposed master)".

As far as I can tell, it was just one offended dood and the company recalled all its books. The publisher basically laid down and died before the 'woke mob' even had a chance to respond.

Because he needs something to be outraged about. For the life of me I'll never understand why people believe anything at face value on social media.

I feel like most right wing complaints now adays are for silly things like this. Liberals complained because Trump tried to get foreign operatives to get dirt on Biden’s son. Conservatives complain because of a children’s book and pretend it’s the same.

I don't know about that, but this looks like good intentions gone wrong. Here's the author's letter, presented in a strange video form:

So you effectively heard a rumor and started a thread about it. And it took ChiCowboy to find the actual story, which turned out to match what you had in your head only in that it involved the author of "Captain Underpants." Not the series, not one of the "Captian Underpants" books, and not even that the author himself was being canceled. Just one of his old books is no longer being published, and he's fine with it.

This is how nutbag internet outrage gets started: someone hears third-hand about something and just starts posting about it. We all need to be better about this crap, but some certainly have further to go than others.

There is surely politics involved on both sides. I don't much like it, but I guess it's always been this way. The first step getting past the politics is admitting the politics.

The author's apology is both succinct and thought provoking, for me, a white man. What provokes thought in me may be all too familiar with an Asian American. What seemed harmless to the author - celebratory, actually - turned out to be harmful. It's difficult to understand how this is possible, until you put yourself in their shoes.

I'll use the old TV show Hee Haw to illustrate. Hee Haw portrayed a certain culture within white society. Great show. Who doesn't like country music, Roy Clark playing Malaguena, corny jokes and Miss Daisy. It portrayed country folk in a great way. Had nothing to do with portraying white folk.

If you reverse the situation, putting whites as a tiny minority, and Hee Haw was seen not as portraying country folk, but white folk by the majority, then I can understand why Asians might see racism in this book.

What I would like to see is the creator of the offensive media and the offended viewer sit down and discuss tweaks. That pretty much never happens tho.

Maybe it happens all the time. No way we would now.

It's one old book. I'm guessing sales haven't been what they once were. Believe me, if this were a flagship product for the publisher, every attempt would be made to salvage it.

What we're seeing is cultural change. It doesn't boil down to this book or that, pancake syrup or Robt. E. Lee. Times are changing. Companies are reacting to this change. They certainly have power to drive it, as they did during the gay marriage debate, but cultural change is coming from grass roots.

Cancelling a book may seem counterintuitive businesswise, but these decisions are more than anything geared toward profits. The nation is becoming much more inclusive. There's not a whole lot any of us can do about it. If you operate a publishing company, apparently getting on board with the change is good business.

Dude how many more things do woke Nazis have to cancel before you decide it's one too many? When even Bill Mahr is criticizing them you might want to reconsider your view on that crap.
No o e should be okay with people losing their jobs because of their politics.

    So what you’re saying is...

You want to cancel wokeness by being woke about wokeness?

Do you oppose private property rights?

You seem angry. Over an old children's book that you probably never heard of. Sad.

I mean what is the fear of “wokeness” other than just some reactionary bs? I don’t get it.

I don't even know what wokeness is, other than something the far right uses to vilify people.

Yes, most definitely. But seriously, the only people I've ever heard use the term are extreme rightists. I have no idea what it means specifically. I'm guessing it has something to do with race.
