Many players disagree. Many college and pro teams practice that way ESPECIALLY field goal units. They try to amp up the noise to get the kicker's nerves going in practice. At least that's how it was done when I was in college. I didn't play college ball but went to many practices from the viewing deck. My friend ended up getting on the team junior year and said everyone hated the fake noise because it echos differently than actual fans and felt weird.
Yeah; I've heard both sides, too. It seems that the lack of noise makes it feel too much like practice, for many. \
