Will Trump's loyal base stay with him now?

During the election campaign, Trump made countless controversial remarks that attracted his base, white supremacists, alt-right, religious right, tea party and disillusioned white blue collar males without a college education.

When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best. They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.

You know what else they say about my people? The polls, they say I have the most loyal people. Did you ever see that? Where I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose any voters, okay? It’s like incredible.

Regarding a protester who had been escorted out of his Las Vegas rally, I'd like to punch him in the face.

Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what the hell is going on.

It stands to reason his dedicated followers voted for him based on these remarks and others, including his "locker room" banter concerning the ease with which he could obtain sex from willing girls.

Here are some remarks from his legendary, loyal base. All were posted during discussions on this forum.

You have lost the people, every time social media is flooded with videos of your brown shirts named antifa and BLM beating innocent people, you lose more people. Every time you call all the people between New York City and San Francisco Nazi's and idiots, you lose more people. You have lost. That's why your side has resorted to open violence and brown shirt thugs.

Racism is not evil, unless you have been fooled and influenced by JEWISH propaganda. Everyone says they want to live in black, Muslim and non-white neighborhoods but nobody actually does. And for the ones who do are just awaiting their white flight to a better place.

Republican lawmakers are cowards and incompetent. Of course they are freaking out. We elected trump to counter those losers. The generals are doing just fine, except for those looking to land a comfortable politician gig in the near future. They are a bit panicked because trump is upsetting the status quo. Trump is doing exactly what we elected him to do. All of Washington should panic. The status quo is being destroyed.

One Trump supporter was honest with himself when he said this. You are embarrassed by the president? Many of his supporters are too; he is a bulldozer.

Imagine the shock to the system for these staunch conservatives when they learned their hero is shifting to the left. He has cut loose all the Republicans in his inner circle, Flynn, Priebus, Spicer, Walsh, Bannon, and Gorka. They have been replaced by globalists and Democrats, two of them family, Jared Kushner and Ivanka. So much for "America First" nationalism. It has been replaced by globalism. Some, like Mick Mulvaney, are swinging to the left with him. Trump wants to eliminate the debt limit. Mulvaney, director of the OMB and the lead on money matters, now thinks that is a great idea. He calls it the "depoliticalization" of the debt limit.

Trump lost no time shifting to the left on policy matters. Since his outrageous rant on Charlottesville, he has gone completely silent on extremists. No more racist, white supremacist remarks from him. He has frozen his own ban on transgenders in the military; there will be no action taken. He has sided with the Democrats on the Dreamers. He made a deal with the Democrats so that their ideas on the debt limit and avoiding a government shutdown became law, despite the Republican majority in Congress. The deal passed because the Democrats wanted to tie those two issues to disaster relief for Irma and Harvey, and the Republican President agreed, much to the chagrin by members of his own party.

Trump invited a bipartisan group of moderate House members to the White House on Wednesday to discuss a host of issues, including tax reform, infrastructure and health care. Most were Democrats, four Republicans and eight Democrats. Tonight Trump is having dinner with "Chuck and Nancy" as he calls them, meaning Chuck Schumur, Democratic minority leader in the Senate; and Nancy Pelosi, Democratic minority leader in the House.

Trump promised his dedicated followers that he would "drain the swamp" by purging Washington of the establishment, a euphemism for moderates or the power brokers. His followers have to be disappointed. Trump is not only joining the establishment, he is joining the Democratic establishment.

Lately, even his tweets have been establishment, meaning moderate and non-controversial, very much unlike his earlier tweets. I guess Trump decided that seeking attention by being stupid didn't get him anywhere.

I think you are right. Trump likes his generals. No doubt he listens to them, including Mattis.

Yes, just like Obama's did when he made equally moronic statements.

You may be right. We haven't heard from any of them, yet. That's strange because they are in the title of the thread. They know we are talking about them. I wonder if any of them will provide their version.

On the other hand, they could be very confused and not know how to respond.

Now how did I know you would bring up Obama and not say a word about the OP. Your're so transparent.

Come on, what are your views regarding what was said in the OP? What's on your mind? Was I accurate in my analysis? If not, why not?

I don't think I wasted my time. You will never admit it, but I'm betting you learned something. If so, I didn't waste my time.

BTW, it took a bit longer than 15 minutes.

Boy, I guess all I had to do was complain a little.

Let's not get personal. The same goes for the other guy.

The OP? Do you have any comments on it?

Lol. I was playing poker on line and got wiped out so I thought I would drop in and see what was new. Was looking for a thread on Comey, Wasserman Shultz and the 45 democrat congressmen who must be sweating right now or the upcoming fall of Hillary. Been amazingly quiet. Heading to bed right now. I'm still holding out judgement on Trump. I can say No Wall no vote from me for a republican no matter who he is.

What gave you the idea Trump was not a moderate? The extremist media?

IMO he is doing just what most of us hoped for--getting Congress to cooperate and do something.

The extremists are the swamp, not the moderates.

    Agreed.

The only thing I'm left wondering is this: after screaming for months about President Trump being a Nazi nutjob, how will Schumer and Pelosi explain having dinner with Hitler? o_O

I heard Trump is thinking about raising taxes on the rich, republicans are not gonna like that - course what he says and what he does are two different things, so time will tell

    That's the most likely explanation.

It's fun watching Steve Bannon snort and fume about it too.

He's finding out that he has been banished to the political wilderness.

I suspect Gen Kelly is going to be running most of the Trump Administration, if he isn't already.

Nor would they care. As long as the Clown Prince can do his Archie Bunker act in front of sympathetic crowds, they're happy. He doesn't have to accomplish anything.

Republicans aren't particularly good at math if they want to spend more on the military if they want a big infrastructure project they're going to need more money and that's just going to make the deficit worse just a bunch of big spending Republicans

I want to take a moment to explain why I wrote what I did in the OP.

I wanted to show what type of candidate Trump was when he won the Republican nomination and later the election. He was a bigoted, white supremacist, bragging sexist. He had a narcissistic persona that demanded constant attention, and he got that attention with highly controversial, xenophobic statements that shocked the electorate.

But not his base. His base, consisting largely of disenfranchised, disillusioned voters with a heavy emphasis on the far right, were enchanted by his remarks. The fact that Trump had no experience in government, no experience in foreign relations, and no experience in the military was a plus for his supporters. Why? Drain the swamp. His base sent him to Washington, not to govern, but to create chaos in Washington.

I provided comments by his base to prove that point.

Giving credit where it is due, Trump's timing was perfect. The Democrats snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. For reasons known only to the gods of bewilderment, the Democratic Party nominated the baggage-heavy, highly controversial Hillary Clinton. Due to Trump's erratic and controversial behavior combined with the unglamorous and careless Clinton, 90 million Americans stayed home on election. But his base was energized, and Trump won the election.

But all that is in the past. What is happening today? That is the whole point of the OP. After eight months of acting stupid, creating controversy wherever he went, moronic tweets, nearly starting a disastrous war on the Korean Peninsula, espousing racial, white supremacist remarks in a rant after Charlottesville -- all this to please his adoring admirers -- Trump decided he was going nowhere. Largely, because he was. He was facing eight months of legislative defeat. Trump is not a fan of defeat.

Now, not only has he forgotten all about draining the swamp, not only is he joining the establishment, he is joining the Democratic establishment, and the OP proves it.

Suddenly, the base no longer has the President they voted for. The terms, Democrat, left, and liberal were akin to devil worship in the Trump fan dictionary.

Turns out, his base ended up voting for a liberal.

Haven't you been following along? Trump has changed.

That is the whole point of the OP. Did you even read the OP? If you didn't red the OP, I can understand your ignorance on that point.

These are the words of a moderate?
I would suppose a Trump fan would think so, a moderate by his standards.

Aw, bipartisanship? Is that what you mean? Bipartisanship is working with both parties to achieve a goal.

It is not working with the opposition party and screwing your own party while turning your back on your base. That is called "in your face" to the party that supported him.

But, lets face it, that is all okay with you and Trump's fans in general. They are like little puppies and their master can do no wrong. Trump has returned to the Democratic fold. As I have shown, he is no longer the man you voted for. But you are okay with that.

Trump's base consists of lost souls who have no true true beliefs. Like their hero, they will go whichever way the wind blows. They simple don't care. They sent Trump to Washington to "drain the swamp." Now Trump has entered the swamp and he wants to bring order to Washington. His base, as you have shown, is fine with that.
