This one really angers me. This is so stupid. It is taking a relatively minor issue -- because so few players were involved -- and making a major issue out of thin air. As if we didn't have enough to worry about.

It;s time to pull back on the football craze in any case--for several reasons--among them that it is used to distract the public from more important issues.

Additionally, a less physically harmful sport would be preferable, especially for college-bound youth. Save it for the muscular types that want to sign up to be gun fodder when they graduate.

Maybe Trump will guide us to a newly popular national sport, or chime in on the side of Kennedy's touch football.....

In light of the gravity of the issues here, I'm sorry, but what an incredibly stupid remark. You are smarter than that. We both know the media is very much aware of the threat. Trump doesn't have to act like a schoolyard bully to impress us.

Pretty much everything the Communist manifesto planned to weaken American society was published sometime in the 50's by the US Government Printing Office. I had a copy of it at one time and wish I still had it. Almost all of the goals in that manifesto that I can recall are now supported by the Democrat party, notably the goal to destroy the family.

I hope you're not one of the parents that pushes their kids into football, only to see them crippled later in life by head injuries. IMO your light treatment of this topic is alarming. What else do people in your social setting make light of?

I think we have some Freeman Institute and John Birch types in this thread.

I wonder how this can pass when perfectly good comparisons to McCarthyism don't. Could it be that Leftists are so easily Triggered that they are more prone to be complainers?

You don't use good comparisons for McCarthyism, progressives, Marxists, etc.

There is no question that our national anthem and our flag are sacred. The fact that a handful of football players chose not to respect the anthem and flag is a relatively minor controversy, mostly ignored by Americans who just want to watch football, and was handled on an individual basis. For example, prior to Trump's moronic statements about the NFL, Colin Kaepernick was scorned across the U.S. He lost his starting quarterback position, and the Forty-Niners didn't sign him for the 2017 season.

ESPN reports, "The visuals all across the NFL, from Lambeau Field to London, declared an unemployed quarterback named Colin Kaepernick as the biggest winner of the day. He started this movement by sitting next to some Gatorade buckets 13 months ago during a preseason playing of the national anthem, and it is possible he paid for that protest with the rest of his NFL career.

"But this was Kaepernick's defining moment Sunday, far more significant than his two playoff conquests of Aaron Rodgers and his NFC Championship Game victory over Atlanta in 2013. Dozens of NFL players took a knee during the anthem -- Kaepernick's revised form of protesting police brutality and racial inequities in society -- and at night, around the bend from the White House, a whole procession of Raiders took a seat before playing Washington. The Steelers, Titans and Seahawks declined to take the field for the anthem. Scores of players, coaches and owners stood on two continents with arms locked in a show of unity after President Donald Trump profanely called for the firings of men who had peacefully exercised their First Amendment rights."

There were protests across the country as Americans lined up against each other, those supporting Trump and those who thought his statements were unwarranted. There was a lot of hate in the shouting matches. Race relations just took a major hit, and it will be weeks, perhaps months, before the hatred subsides. All caused by our President who thought it was necessary to tweet, "The issue of kneeling has nothing to do with race."

Of course it did. Trump got it wrong again. The whole issue of kneeling is about race.

More to the point, Trump turned a relatively minor issue into a major confrontation involving the NFL, the players, the fans, and negatively impacted race relations across the country.

Thank you, Mr. President. Good job.

And now some team, having cover because of Donnie Dotard's doddering remarks, will hire Kaepernik.

Sure, a week ago he was despised and couldn't get a job. Now, because of Trump, he is hero and a draw.

Last week nine out of nearly 1700 players took a knee. Because of Trump, who called those players sonsabitches before a crowd of screaming redneck admirers in Alabama, in one form or another nearly every player took a knee this week. Whole teams did not come on the field for anthem. Players were supported by owners and coaches. Outside football stadiums, protesters clashed.

    Congratulations, Mr. President.

It is difficult to understand how Trump's base could support him on this one. Do they have something against football? Do they enjoy the prospect of the President turning America's favorite sport into political and racial protests.

Trump's attack on the NFL. His loyal base is staying away from this one.

Are they finally maxed out with Trump? He is doing his level best to start a war with NK. He has adopted liberal policies regarding transgenders in the military, Dreamers, debt limit, and keeping the government open for business. Now he is asking Americans to boycott their favorite game.

I'm happy with how I see things, given that no one has provided a better explanation yet.

Don't be ridiculous. Something had to happen to stop the injuring of so many promising young men in our society, and Trump may have inadvertently started the ball rolling away from that injurious sport.

Trump did not begin this hoo ha--people like Soros did, with the help of their mindless minions.

You can't be serious. In the first place no one is forcing these men to play football. They want to. Indeed, for many of them, professional football is a lifelong goal. Now you are presuming that our President should prevent them from playing football for their own good?

Can you say "desperation?" Desperation is what one would call that ludicrous explanation to justify Trump's moronic remarks.

Why don't you just say Trump was very wrong to make those statements and get on with your life. You know it to be true.

    Their parents want them to.

Good job of rationalizing an injurious sport, though. Do you have sons you push into playing it?

    Why won't you answer that?
