Howdy So, the XXIII Winter Olympic games will be held in Pyeongchang, South Korea in February, 2018, just a few moths away. Are you going? Scared of 'lil Kim'? What do you think about it?
Just imagine the outrage if DJ Trump nukes NK and ruins the Olympic games. The leftists will go wild!
I chose other because the Winter Olympics are pretty much unwatchable. The coverage invariably devolves into a human interest story about how an American athlete overcame adversity to get to the Olympics. To me the stories eventually sound like "I had to overcome the social stigma of having to wear Vans while all my friends wore Skechers, and now I sit in the middle of three other guys in a bob sled where I am basically ballast and gravity does all the work." At least bobsledding has clear objectives such as getting off the freezing cold mountain as fast as possible, unlike ice skating or free form snowboarding. We need to ask ourselves, is it a sport if you have to have judges? Isn't one of the objectives of a sport to have a clearly defined goal or aim? Is there a significant difference in judging figure skating in the Olympics and who has the best canned peaches at the Clackamas County Fair? Both sets of judges are looking for presentation, form, and artfulness. Will I be watching the winter Olympics? No, except for curling, but I only watch that because I like to see Canadians sweeping as fast as they can. I can't help but wonder how fast those guys could get my office parking lot clean and tidy.
How much of the Olympic facilities will be newly constructed? And how much of that will be slum in a few years? the natural site for Winter Olympics. Good for most "summer months" too.
London, Sochi, China, etc. construct Olympic facilities that become slums. One of the most beautiful things about Los Angeles based Olympics is the facilities are there. Moreso than last time. The idea of the IOC favoring a site that requires massive construction to host the Olympics is abhorrent as it results is some getting rich off the construction while "the people" pay for it. It sometimes displaces poor people for redevelopment that is a "use once" development. It is time the IOC give highest priority to applications where the most infrastructure already exists. Los Angeles has many stadiums, field tracks, Olympic swimming pools, housing, transportation - now with the new subway system. It is my understanding Utah has similar qualities for hosting the Winter Olympics. Diversity does not counter balance the absurdity of giving hosting privileges to cities that are truly not qualified to be the host. How much of South Korea's preparations were a corruption for diversity? That was the point I was trying to declare an expressitude. Moi r > g Across an immense, unguarded, ethereal border, Canadians, cool and unsympathetic, regard our America with envious eyes and slowly and surely draw their plans against us.
Russia Banned from 2018 Winter Olympics..... The International Olympic Committee has barred Russia from competing in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea as punishment for systematic doping. The penalty is unprecedented. The IOC came to its conclusions after an in depth investigation that found Russian athletes not only cheating, but the Russian sports ministry working overtime to conceal the doping.....snip~ https://townhall.com/tipsheet/cortn...sia-banned-from-2018-winter-olympics-n2418468 Bad Russia.....bad!
Penalizing persons who were clean is wrong. As if athletes neither dope nor add extra blood cells to their circulation. I remember the years when they were all asthmatic and in line pumping their systems with Adrenalin from their asthma inhalers. What a sight. had the highest percentage of asthmatic athletes requiring rescue inhaler use before an event of anyone if you watched for it. How long is the doping incident going to be Russia's cross to bare? or bear
Has there been a winter Olympics since they were caught doping? From what I read there has not. So they could at least "bare their cross" one winter Olympics.
Russian athletes have to compete at large, under Olympic flag... Russia Is Banned From 2018 Olympics; Athletes Told To Compete Under Olympic Flag December 5, 2017 - The International Olympic Committee has suspended the Russian Olympic Committee "with immediate effect," effectively banning the country from the upcoming Winter Olympics over Russia's system of state-supported cheating by its athletes who used performance-enhancing drugs.
nope I'll watch the highlights... love some of the events but who's got time to sit there and watch it all
The Olympics. A Sad Expression of Nationalism and Political Power, ref.: Russian athletes, and corrupt Korean judges last time. How About Athletes Compete as Individuals and NOT Nations? Moi r > g They should be Winter Sports naturals, eh
The best part of the Olympics is hearing the Russian national anthem played live 20 or 30 times. Now that the envious US finally got their chance to remove the competition there's no reason to attend. Without the Russians it'll be a boring show with the players dropping the shot-put, fumbling the pole vault, and keeling over like flies in the marathon. I prefer a good old fight with Russian gold medalist jeering at the stars and stripes and Americans whining about their loss and blaming it on everyone but themselves.
Obviously, teams represent teams, not nations. Just try, follow the logic. Too much nationalism is destroying the Olympic ideal.
