We weren't in NATO last time we defended over there so why do we need it now? Id Russia invades Europe are we going to sit on our ass because we aren't in NATO?

Being a member of NATO offers many advantages over doing it yourself. NATO helps pay the expernses. NATO provides troops & weaponry to any conflict. NATO offers public support. NATO helps coordinate activities that occur on their turf, not ours. Dealing with conflicts in the European theater alone would be far more complex, difficult, expensive & risky. Would we sit by if Russia invaded Europe? History shows that's precisely what we did when Hitler invaded his European neighbors, including the UK. Why would we do differently now, if we weren't members of NATO?

We pay the majority of NATO costs and that is the issue. Its their territory over there so they should pay. And we still got into WW2 without being in NATO.

If an investment by the U.S. results in peace over war, then that is a good investment. Inveting in NATO has maintained peace there for 75 years--longer than any time I can think of for that region of the Earth. Without NATO, there would have been several conflicts there in that time period--perhaps even another World War. NATO is crucial. The money we spend there is well spent.

When we entered WWII, NATO didn't exist. If it had, perhaps there wouldn't have been a WWII.

And Europe is incapable of defending themselves. Please tell us what these conflicts were that NATO prevented?

My question was, why aren't the Biden people social distancing? I'm not that good in math, but I figure the amount of deaths from Covid 19 in the US considering our population, comes to about 1 out of every 1,500 people. Unless I'm mistaken, most of the cases were in Democrat run cities - and yet the people were allowed to gather and protest, so how can that be blamed on Trump? The President can't send in the national guard unless it's requested by the Governor.

Anyway the Democrats have an agenda, and it's to destroy our nations sovereignty and bring about the One World Government that's espoused by the Washington ideologues. Not that we don't deserve getting a bit of our own medicine, since we've been knocking out democratically elected leaders non stop with our regime changes. But still, who wants to end up in slavery for the next 70 years like the Soviet Union.

European nations are themselves members of NATO. That fact helps prevent conflicts between or among them. That's another argument in favor of NATO's existence. I can't name the conflicts that were resolved peacefully because I'm not European, not familiar with all the issues that arise there. But the fact that peace has endured is itself evidence that NATO works.

And yet the only nation today that mimics Nazi Germany's aggression to a 'T', even to the point of having their own domestic megalomaniac claiming everything from Baghdad to Crete would be Turkey - and they are part of NATO. So how good can NATO be when it consists of the very aggression it was supposedly fighting?

They can have NATO we just don't need to be part of it since it is not our sphere of influence. If they need help sometime in the future we can come then, its not that difficult a thing to do. They are ONLY whining because we pay for most of it and send mostly our troops to fight their battles.

    It's beyond pathetic.

Not to the point where NATO is going to help us. They need us we in no way need them whatsoever.

We used to need their bases so as to counter a Soviet land invasion of Europe. We also need their territory to intercept medium range missiles from Russia

Not anymore. NATO is a relic from the past that's no longer needed. Russia is never going to war with Europe and if they do it will be nuclear.

What if they decide to invade former Soviet republics in the baltics?

What if they decide to invade Eastern Poland?

We should just let it happen?

We would send forces over there, its not a race where who gets their first wins. Besides we would see any troop buildup for an invasion long before they even move into position to invade. And Europe has more than enough weaponry to take on Russia who the Afghans beat at the height of their power.

And then the Soviets Nuke them, we nuke the Soviets, they nuke us and A Canticle for Leibowitz becomes reality.

If this kind of thinking is typical Trumperist 'diplomacy' then Biden may have just saved life on Earth

Oh, and the reason Dirty Donnie abandoned the Kurds, costing us several billions, thousands of Allied lives and the trust of people who are crucial in the area which we had been cultivating for decades, was so he could build Trump Towers in Moscow and Istanbul.

Do you really think Billions of American dollars and thousands of American Allies' lives should be sacrificed to salve the ego of a narcissistic psychopath? Fortunately, that question is now moot since it's subject is soon to be making deals to keep his nether orifices from being traded to Big Bubba the Bitchy Biker for cigarettes

Our NATO payments are NOT an issue with me. I support staying in NATO. It's a good investment.
