Would you have used the atom bomb on Japan in WWII if you were Prez?

Well, first of I would enter with military troops not by dropping an atom bomb, because if you enter with troops the chance of hurting civilians is low, and by so they are also given time to escape/hide somewhere. And I would use the civilians as an argument for them to surrender.

 

The Japanese planned to defend an invasion with civilians, mostly armed with pitchforks and sharpened sticks.

 

You can also try to cooperate with other countries who could help in the process of convincing these civilians to not get involved in this conflict as they have nothing to do with it, they have just been dragged into the conflict, and we can still see it today that civilians in different countries are being dragged in to a conflict.

Okinawa pretty much defined how the invasion of the Japanese mainland would go. Middle-school children were forced into combat by the Japanese army, and thousands of civilians committed suicide rather than surrender to American forces. A mainland invasion would have been disastrous for both sides, with the Americans taking up to 1,000,000 casualties, and the Japanese taking tens of millions - mostly civilian. That we were able to end it with less than a quarter million civilian casualties was a blessing, considering the alternative.

Japanese civilians were going to take on the role of the military. Warrior culture and whatnot.

It doesn't. The US was at the time an apartheid state towards it's black people, they rounded up their ethnic japanese civilians in concentration camps, had no problem firebombing civilians in Japan one bit, and they still totally support nuking civilians.

We firebombed Germany. Germans are white.

Obviously you would have been a-ok with the Japanese continuing to slaughter Chinese civilians (racism against the Chinese!), fine with hundreds of thousands of American white troops killed in an invasion (racism against white people and bigotry against all Americans) and disregard that it was estimated that a ground invasion of Japan was estimated to cost many millions of Japanese lives (racism against the Japanese!).

 

Killing civilians indiscriminately, is killing civilians indiscriminately.
Locking civilians up because of their ethnicity, is locking up civilians because of their ethnicity.
Clear link between the killing of those civilians and locking up those civilians.

So I'm just calling a spade a spade of a rather genocidal policy of the US who at that time was an apartheid state towards black people. Tough luck if you got a problem with the dark pages of your past.
