Everybody that is anybody has flown at the Reno Air Races. We lived on Stead. I loved going to the races.
I went to an airshow at an air force base in IN and they hovered a harrier over the crowd so we could feel the wash. I was pretty young at the time, but looking back- how the hell did they get away with that? Seems risky. But it was awesome They also had an F117A on display. It had several armed guards around it who wouldn't let you touch it... but it was dark red instead of black. I think it may have been a dummy...
That is CGI.... In fact, it looks like something right out of DCS (Digital Combat Simulations) which you can buy off of Steam or independently. Focus on the foliage and the tarmac the plane is taking off from, that is computer generated for sure. Also, engine noise is generated as well. As the plane turns and it's AOA fluctuates, the noise decibels will be altered and sound completely different to someone standing in the same spot and filming. But this is CGI, without a doubt. I took this photo in a chase plane for the DoD: You can tell it's real by the exhaust emanating from the GE F404 engines and the grease marks on Starboard Stab. You just can't fake that stuff. Oh wait, no I didn't, it's CGI....again.
It's strange that it didn't hit afterburner when flying nose vertical while maintaining slow forward ground speed and low altitude. Very strange indeed. Because there is zero lift available from the wings, only thrust from the engines. A Blue Angel can do close to that in the Hornet but has to hit afterburner.
