Hello everybody. I'm an Belfast man who lives in beautiful north Wales. I've been here for seven years and, before that, I was just south of London for 12 years. But I was 42 when I left my homeland, so I haven't lost my Belfast accent, as you can tell by the way I type. I've recently retired after 38 years in healthcare. I worked most of that time in the UK National Health Service, but I've also worked internationally, including in many US states, as a healthcare consultant. I'm here hoping to catch up with some old friends and sparring partners from Politics and Current Affairs, now sadly closed down.
Hello. You'll find that this forum is pretty active. Hopefully you enjoy it here. Welcome to the forums.
Thanks H. Hi Tom. I can't reply to your PM yet. I don't have the privileges until I'm made a few posts. I was trying to figure out how to get in touch with you the other week. I was speaking at a conference in Amelia Island between 4th and 10th August. I flew into Orlando and drove north. I don't know what part of Florida you live in. It might have been way out of my way. But it would have been good to meet. Anyway, Amelia Island was beautiful. The gulls didn't even need to flap their wings, they just rode the thermals. The only downside was that every time I left the air-conditioned conference centre my glasses steamed up. If I was going to live in Florida I'd have to get my eyes done.
I'm about an hour away from Orlando, but I had to look up Amelia Island to see where it is. I'm not familiar with that part of Florida. You might as well have been in Georgia. I grew up in Pinellas County on the Central Gulf Coast, but now I live almost smack dab in the middle of the state.
The nearest I'd ever been to Florida before this was Augusta, Georgia. It was years ago and there was a forest fire in Florida, so I breathed the state in. I was looking at Tampa for some holiday accommodation. Is your garage free?
Hi Zan! To keep your glasses from steaming up, use toothpaste, dish washing deterrent, or just plain spit. All three really works for awhile. I learned that from diving. It works with glasses as well.
Now why couldn't someone have given me that useful advice when I was there, stumbling about blind? Hi VP.
Wow, it so nice to see you! This forum is heavily moderated. Not like the old forum. It took me awhile and I am still learning the truthies from the rest. It is hard because it is such a large forum but I have grown to like it. There are some activist. Cant' discuss anything with them. There are lots of one trick ponies as well. Some things never change!
I don't know how much I'll post here. I'm investigating how to set up a blog, but it's pretty confusing deciding what the best hosting options are.
Blogger offers a good blogging platform for free and it's easy to use. My personal blog has had 11,688 page views so far and there is a lot of traffic because it's run by Google Inc., which may be directing web users to its own service. http://www.blogger.com/
Greetings Zan. Blogging is different than foruming. Less frantic, for one thing. There aren't all these strings of posts rushing by. Instead, the traffic is distributed over zillions of blogs. You get hooked into some, some get hooked into your blog, and you form your own bit of blogosphere. The whole thing is spheres within spheres within spheres.... I think. I could be wrong. Anyway, my in-general inactive blog is here: Things Have Changed
