After Iran's missile attacks against the US bases in Iraq, the POTUS claimed that the attacks had done little damage to the US base and causes no deaths or injuries to American soldiers. Not long after his claim, before and after satellite imagery of some of the areas impacted by Iranian missiles already showed that he was lying about the impact of the strikes. Belatedly, the Pentagon allowed journalists to see the base for themselves recently and the evidence of the damage even become more clear. Iran had said it had 'documented' evidence of injured US troops being evacuated and flow outside of Iraq by C-130 planes after its missile strikes. Now we are learning more.

We have no PATRIOT or THAAD batteries anywhere in Iraq. Those were pulled out I believe in 2004. I think we still keep half a Battalion in Kuwait, and half a Battalion in Qatar. And others scattered in a few other countries.

But at this time, we still only have 2 THAAD Batteries activated. Alpha Battery 4th Regiment, and Alpha Battery 2nd Regiment. The last was activated now over 11 years ago, and both Batteries are busting their butts in doing deployment after deployment. Getting shoved all over the place in an endless string of missions that never seems to end.

But the US no longer places ADA in places where ground combat is likely. The lesson of Echo Company 5-52 is still being felt to this day.

The US does have patriot missiles in Iraq, although reportedly none were around the Al Asad air base. In any case, the patriot missiles won't be able to intercept Iran's ballistic missiles and certainly not with any reliability. The only system that may be able to take out Iran's ballistic missiles is the Arrow 3 developed jointly by the US and Israel, but Israel's claims on the issue aren't verified or proven. We may know more about the accuracy of the claims regarding the Arrow 3 system one of these days.

Turns out Iran did bitch-slap us. Kind of. When's the last time a country got away with attacking and injuring our guys?

OK, so what should the response be?

Should we attack them? Should we send in fighters to destroy their military sites that they launched from? Or where they build and stockpile their missiles?

This is where I generally chuckle. What should the response be? Because I can guarantee that a lot of people screaming that we are doing nothing would also scream if we responded.
