this is bad.
a lot of hard working people are going to be comprimised. the company is meant to be secretive. the public is not meant to be aware of what is going on. just think, enemys reading operational procedure in the washington post or online. kinda defeates the purpose of all those measures and efforts to be secretive! the measures outlined in that memo are meant to give security forces an edge in obtaining intel. you don't go to the other team and show them your play book!!!!

This isn't a football game, this is real life. The government has no right to hide anything from the public, they work for us. Especially in regards to something as sinister as torture.

We allow the government to classify a fair amount of what occurs. If you want to argue that there's over-classification, I'd be right there with you, much of what is classified is available in open source.

But it's disingenuous to say they can't hide things from us. We ask them to. There was just a roundtable on C-Span over this issue, FOIA, classification and what have you.

Who asks the government to hide anything from us? I know of no person that actually wants a secretive government.

Just to clarify, I agree that no one wants a secretive government, however some information is classified in general, because it would be dangerous if it was leaked no? I mean some information is hidden to protect the country.

I'm sorry to do this, but like what? I could understand the excuse of keeping something secret for operations sake but I don't see what information has to be kept secret to protect the country.

Well much of what goes on within the Pentagon, CIA, FBI, Canada's equivelent CISIS is secretive. A scenario could be intel on possible hideouts of suspected terrorists, a raid about to occur. Intelligence that if leaked could hinder a situation.

Our gov't is responsible for providing our national security. It's what we elect them to do. I don't need to know all the details; I just need to know that they are providing it.

BTW, NOTHING the CIA did was illegal and NOTHING they did was any different than the training they put our OWN MILITARY through. I wanted our gov't to do all they could in order to prevent anymore 9/11's and that's exactly what they did.

The last administration has nothing to be ashamed of. However, THIS one does---by releasing this national security memos in a partisan political effort to smear the last administration.

How long does Obama have to knock others down to build himself up? Is he THIS fragile???

Nothing they did was torture. AND they got lots of information that prevented many other innocent Americans from being killed. I have one question for you:

IF on September 10th, 2001, you could have personally prevented 9/11 by authorizing the sleep deprivation for one of the potential hijackers in order to extract the needed information to prevent the attack......WOULD YOU HAVE DONE SO? YES or NO.

Here's a thumbnail sketch, if a bit simplistic of the formation of the intelligence community...in 1775. There have always been parts of government that are secret...and for good reasons
