Default Animosity towards U.S. military

My vacation ends and I go back to work next week, which will severely curtail my posting.

I've spent a lot of time in here reading and posting in the past week or so. Thank you to all who I have replied and spoken with. Thank you also for any reputation clicks I received. I don't know why I'd get them, I don't think my opinions are particularly unique, but thank you.

I noticed that some individuals in here have a great deal of animousity towards the United States military. That concerns me a little. Do those of you who have this opinion ever talk to anyone who is serving or has served?

I just want to say, that by in large, the folks who serve in the military are just ordinary folks put into extraordinary situations. The vast majority don't "get off" on killing and/or taking innocent lives. Most have families of their own, most don't intend to make careers out of the military. Most have hobbies, watch TV, listen to music, play amateur sports, go out to bars. They are just people same as you, maybe in a little better physical conditon (just jokin')

There are a few bad apples. There are a few bad teachers, bad doctors, bad police officers, bad you name it....

I am saddened to read so much animosity towards them.

If I have influenced one person's mind, to maybe think a little better of those men and women who are serving in Iraq or anywhere for that matter. My time was not wasted.

Take care.

I just noticed I spelled Animousity wrong in the title!

as a group, our military personnel - and their families - epitomize more than any other sector of our population what is right about America.
support our troops, absolutely ... but also recognize the iraq decision which unnecessarily placed them in harm's way was beyond moronic

saw this about another sky truck driver:
Quote:
A story from a U.S. Soldier somewhere in Afghanistan
"So we are up in the mountains at about 0100 hrs looking for a bad guy that we thought was in the area. There are ten of us, pitch black, crystal clear night, about 25 degrees. We know there are bad guys in the area; a few shots have been fired but no big deal. We decide that we need air cover and the only thing in the area is a solo B-1 bomber. He flies around at about 20,000 feet and tells us there is nothing in the area.
He then asks if we would like a low level show of force. Stupid question. Of course we tell him yes.
The controller who is attached to the team then is heard talking to the pilot. Pilot asks if we want it subsonic or supersonic. Very stupid question.
Pilot advises he is twenty miles out and stand by. The controller gets us all sitting down in a line and points out the proper location. You have to picture this. Pitch black, ten killers sitting down, dead quiet and overlooking this about 30 mile long valley. All of a sudden, way out (below our level) you see a set of four 200' white flames coming at us. The controller says, "Ah-- guys-- you might want to plug your ears".
Faster than you can think a B-1, supersonic, 1000' over our heads, blasts the sound barrier and it feels like God just hit you in the head with a hammer. He then stands it straight up with 4 white trails of flame coming out and disappears."
Cost of gas for that: Probably $50,000
Hearing damage: For certain
Bunch of Taliban thinking twice about shooting at us: Priceless

Have a nice day from the good 'ol USA!

keep the sunny side up, herc

Keep up the good work. I'll keep trying to keep the John Kerry's of the world in check.
