Default An argument in favor of outsourcing customer service jobs

I wish more companies would hire people in call centers in India who pretend to be American and give themselves silly names like Todd or Heather while they speak in heavily accented English.

These are the most polite & helpful customer service reps I talk to.

Default .

It is better than those prison call centers. I really want some criminal to have my credit card number and know the decor of my living room.

Yeah, but if I don't have access to your credit card numbers, than how am I going to afford to pay for my internet and DSL hookup in my cell? I mean, how inconsiderate are you? Don't I have the right to a big screen TV in my cell? You are probably an advocate of Cruel and Unusual punishment, aren't you?

On a more serious note, there are benifits and drawbacks to out-sourcing.

Benefit- the prices of goods that we buy are lower due to lower costs on the producer's end

Drawback- Higher paying technology and related jobs are replaced by lower paying, lower benefit service related jobs. This partially explains why Wal-Mart is now the Worlds largest company but is notorious for their low wages.

I guess your opinion on out-sourcing just depends on which of these categories is more important to each individual.

Telemarketers and customer service people.

Anytime the cost of our labor (wages+payroll taxes+benefits) do not work in a cost accounting algebra equation that is ultimately driven by price, the jobs go somewhere else.

What people do not understand about globalization is that it will only allow us to keep better jobs if we have a better educated workforce or become willing to accept lower paying jobs. Its coming in incremental steps but its unavoidable.

Well in that case, I vote for creating a more well-educated work force.

regarding the needs for more funding towards education of our young and reeduction for our workers.

Its amazing how liberals (I am assuming you are closer to that than conservative) and conservatives can come together on real issues. When the conversation is allowed to go beyond what Rush or Michael Moore said, then real common interests can often be found.
