Icon19 Turks in Ankara threaten France Republic:"Wait for us France, we will come."/genocide

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-16306376
"The Turkish prime minister has announced measures against France after MPs passed a bill criminalising denial of the 1915-16 Armenian "genocide".

Ankara is recalling its ambassador and freezing political visits as well as joint military projects, including exercises, Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.

The bill was passed by the French National Assembly on Thursday and is due to go before the Senate next year.

French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe has publicly opposed it.

Under the bill, those publicly denying genocide would face a year in jail and a fine of 45,000 euros (£29,000; $58,000).

Armenians say up to 1.5 million people were killed by the Ottoman Turks in 1915-16."

You can't fight ignorance with censorship.

The Armenian Genocide was real, and Turkey is in extreme denial about it, but criminalizing genocide denial is just stupid.

I agree, but it's more than plain ' stupid '. It's dangerous to freedom of thought.

i m agree with bill's author Valerie Boyer, she said.:

"My bill doesn't aim at any particular country,"

"It is inspired by European law, which says that the people who deny the existence of the genocides must be sanctioned."

It's a law consistent with their ban of denying the Holocaust, but I agree with moon. Bans of this nature are essentially thought crimes.

France used to be an open and progressive country, rich with artists, intellectuals and innovators. It presented the US with the Statue of Liberty. Look at Sarkozy's work.

this bill has nothing to do with "freedom of thought.", Turks say that we just took armenians on a nice trip to Syria. they have institutionally rejected that their goal was (with all those "deportations") - "the deliberate and systematic destruction, in whole or in part, of an ethnic, racial, religious, or national group"

Well, they have a right to say it- in civilized countries.

The problem with Turkey is the opposite.

They've criminalized acknowledging the Armenian Genocide.

They also are lacking a freedom of speech.
