Thread: Christians targeted in Syria, hundreds of Christians die

  1. Default Christians targeted in Syria, hundreds of Christians die

Christians are identified with the relatively secular Alawite Assad regime; if it falls to an Islamic supremacist regime, life for the Christian community in Syria will get very hard. Iran wants to keep its client regime in place, but now the Saudis are agitating for the U.S. to aid the protesters, as this will lead to a Sunni Islamic supremacist regime and keep the Shi'ites from gaining too much power in the region. So we will soon see whether Barack Obama is more interested in kowtowing to the Saudis rather than the Iranians, but so far, in holding back from supporting the Syrian protesters, he has been firmly in the mullahs' camp.

"Christians in Syria targeted in series of kidnappings and killings; 100 dead," from Barnabas Aid via the Pakistan Christian Post, January 19:

Damascus: January 19, 2012. (Barnabas Aid) The Christian community in Syria has been hit by a series of kidnappings and brutal murders; 100 Christians have now been killed since the anti-government unrest began.

A reliable source in the country, who cannot be identified for their own safety, told Barnabas Aid that children were being especially targeted by the kidnappers, who, if they do not receive the ransom demanded, kill the victim.

And the source provided detailed information ¨some of which cannot be made public for security reasons¨ about incidents that have taken place since Christmas. Two Christian men, one aged 28, the other a 37-year-old father with a pregnant wife, were kidnapped by the rebels in separate incidents and later found dead; the first was found hanged with numerous injuries, the second was cut into pieces and thrown in a river. Four more have been abducted, and their captors are threatening to kill them too.

Two Christians were killed on January 15 as they waited for bread at a bakery. Another Christian, aged 40 with two young children, was shot dead by three armed attackers while he was driving a vehicle.

These latest reports are reminiscent of the anti-Christian attacks that have become commonplace in Iraq since the 2003 US-led invasion, and heighten concerns about the future for Christians in Syria as the anti-government protests there continue....

A Western-backed military campaign in alliance with the Syrian rebels against the Assad regime is looking increasingly likely, and this could be devastating for the Church in Syria. Christians in Syria have enjoyed a considerable measure of freedom and protection under President Assad; if he falls, there could be a repeat of the tragic near-extermination of the Church in post-Saddam Hussein Iraq.

On January 6, 2012, the Council of Evangelical Churches in Baghdad was dissolved, signaling another nail in the coffin for Christianity in Iraq. The once sizeable Christian minority there has been reduced to no more than a few hundred thousand today....

    Who cares?

They shouldn't be so utterly stupid in the first place to allign with a tyrant.

If I were one of them, I would be packing my bags and moving to Lebanon.

Meanwhile Lebanon has been a failed state for quite some time, and many more Christians moved away from Lebanon then Muslims for this reason. Only a idiot would migrate from one failed state to the next.

Also fun how Janpor once more ignores the fact that Christians are always safe with a Tyrant, Saddam left Christians largely alone, so did the Sjah, so did Mubarak and so does Assad, after all the last thing they want is internal tension. now you get a ''democracy'' and genocide on Christians like in Egypt and Iraq. But does not matter for Janpor because its at least a democratic genocide wanted by the people ^^

I thought that it was crime which mattered, not religion. It is sad that humans are getting harmed, regardless of their beliefs.

We aren't experiencing a "genocide" of anyone here in Egypt.

Why people have been leaving Lebanon has nothing to do with religion and has to do with Lebanons economy and the high unemployment.

Maybe the reasons Christians are supported by tyrants is because they support them back. You can understand why there would be some tension, however it is wrong to kill anybody over that. In Egypt you saw Christians and Muslims uniting, only a small group of Egyptians have been killing Christians and attacking churches only cause trouble ad religious tension. In Iraq more Shi'ites and Muslims in general are being killed than Christians.

Assad has killed plenty of Muslims. You ignore the genocide of Muslims in places like Syria and Iraq to sympathize with a non-existent genocide instead....

It doesn't matter who is killed, innocent people are innocent regardless of faith. Of course this is too difficult for a Spencer sheep to understand.

One thing that amazes me with that man, he thinks exactly like the "Jihadists" and "Islamists" do. Not to make a point, but because he is clueless. Yet he criticizes them or thinking he same way he thinks. Such a clown.

It also amazes me how you constantly use Spencer's work, however change the title, as if trying to fool people and give it some credibility.

He would have no idea that even happens, because Robby Spencer LOVES "Israel", he would never post anything bad about "Israel".

In fact, he has criticized Islam and Christianity, but never Judaism or Zionism. I asked him why, he kept avoiding the answer.

Whenever there is instability in some regions Christians suffer. It is not a matter of support or no support. That is a matter of dormant extremist’s hatred toward them which is always released in such situations. Coptic people had not specially supported anyone but they suffered. It is just a pretext. I think there should be more support and defence of Christian minorities throughout the world on the part of the world powers. It is a real genoside of Christians, the same as it was 2000 years ago.

Yes, and Christians suffer along with other religions from this "genocide" even in Christian nations with such instability. Whenever there is instability, Christians suffer no matter where they live.
