It's all about context. If you're burning books that are the garbage that comes with insurgents, that's quite different from burning books out of something like censorship.
The point is, if someone wants to attack us over burning Qurans, they probably are either looking for a reason to attack us or they're just too insane to reason with in the first place.
Burning books in this case qurans, has and would upset and inflame the locals of afghan.
Either the troops involved are morons or intentionally done this. Such crass insenative treatment to another peoples religious beliefs in their own country is highly stupid and should be attacked. Of course if this was done in the usa. (like the pastor tried last year) This would be a different debate.
When the seagulls follow the trawler, it is because they think the sardines will be thrown into the sea.
We'll have to differ on the bolded part.
I'm not saying what they did was smart, but then again, we're attempting something stupid in the first place.
The only way to successfully nation build a place like Afghanistan requires some serious domination of the locals. That's what the Taliban had to do.
We're trying to pretend that these are people who can function in a democratic government. Obviously, a people crazy enough to kill over a book burning aren't capable of that.
So, due to political correctness, we keep up the charade while wasting billions.
Raymondo put this point much better than i can plagerise. "America has never learned to prove their own system is 'superior' they always rely on force"
So how expect anyone else to believe in it? (i.e nation build)
Also (attack) was the wrong word. No one deserved to die over that action. But religious beliefs are blind the world over.

I would think our system is superior just by the sheer fact that we're wealthier than most of the world.
Now, let me clarify something. I'm not saying we have the most moral system. Unfortunately, it would appear that the only way countries can really maintain a significantly higher standard of living than most of the rest of the world involves exploiting poorer nations. We've done plenty of meddling in foreign governments to further our trade interests.
However, we're not the only ones who do that, and we're not going to be the last. Humans naturally have a tendency to vex and oppress each other, and I seriously doubt any level of social development will ever change that.
In short, we're superior because we're better at the game than most. China is showing they're quite good at it too, however, and they're the most likely to become "top dog" in about 20 to 30 years.
The wealthy view in usa with the poor denied univeral health care. Maybe your view is, hoarding of wealth to elitest capitalistis. Which is what many see when view the usa system. The usa should review their own system, (banking crisis, huge debt problems and the rich/poor divide before export it)

Well, it's more than just that. There are more egalitarian systems out there that could be argued are even better. Norway seems to have basically the most optimal system possible.
However, even their system requires exploiting poorer nations. Despite staying out of most wars, they make a lot of money off of arms trade. They also make a ton of money off of oil, which isn't exactly the cleanest business.
Now isn't that the main issue with the usa current economic mess. The complete over realiance on arms trade and military buildup. The staggering amount of usa national budget that directly goes to the military at the expense of everything else.
Usa has huge problems, which they never seem to address. This is to the view of 'nation building' I can't see how any nation can attempt this when it also has crippling problems.

Our main issue isn't actually military spending -- the two big problems are entitlement spending and the vast corruption of our financial sector. We spend considerably more on SS and Medicare than on the military, and Wall Street owns our government.
That being said, the military does need to be cut, but as with anything, special interests fight tooth and nail to prevent said cuts.
