The point of the article is to state that it was an old F4 Phantom which are converted into drones today to be shot down that was shot down. Hence everyone that was scratching their heads of what was a NATO member doing flying a 70 year old plane into Syrian airspace all about. Well there is your answer in the article, a drone used by NATO as a false flag to try and get NATO to bomb Syria.
The models of F-4 operated by Turkey are not 70 years olds. They are upgraded versions that date from the same time as the F-16.

The F-4E Terminators that Turkey operates date from 1995. Does the op believe that 1995 was "70 years" ago?

The fact remains that Syria issued no warning, nor did it send up a fighter escort to warn the plane off. Turkey and Syria are not at war, so this is what should have been done. I think they will be at war now.

    Syria started it.

BTW, that plane first became operational the year I was born. I assure you that I am not 60 or 70. It is still in service with some Air National Guard units in the US.

Turkey flies the RF-4E, a manned two-seater aircraft built in the mid-70's, used for reconnaissance missions.
It was not a drone aircraft that was lost.

Well, here are your own words, from the OP:

"Turkey is a member of NATO and is equiped with F16's, why the hell would they be using these 60 year old planes any more? Reason they are not!"

Clearly he means the design of the planes.

Surely you considered that. Come on fellows! Grasping at straws is the tactic of those without an argument.

Designed in 1952 flown in 1958 put into wide service in 1960.

    2012 - 1952 = 60

However when accounting for days and months, minutes, seconds, milliseconds... Nanoseconds? Wait.. Wait.. He is Exact!! He is Exact!!

You maybe are wondering why some posts contain strange mangled text.. A modem broke recently and the old temporary one is dropping text accidentally and slow. It will be repaired surely in no time.

Except that aircraft have VERSIONS. The F-4F reconaissance birds Turkey flies come from the late 60's/early 70's. It's F-4E-2020 Terminator attackers weren't even in existence until 1995 and not in service until 2000.

The F-4 is hardly a worn out aircraft and performs great. Especially in the Middle East and Africa where the best the locals can scrounge up is usually a MiG-21 or Su-7.

Folks are confusing design and first production date with the production date of variants.

The first production C-130A took place in 1954

Lockheed still manufactures the C-130J variant to this day...58 years after the first production of the first version; yet it's a brand new airframe, powerplant and avionics.

McDonnell Douglas made Phantoms for over 20 years. This particular variant, the RF-4E was probably produced in the mid to late 1970's.

    About a 35 year old airframe...possibly a little newer.

It's still a nice bird, it'll fly at Mach 2. Obviously there's better fighters, but to imply this is some sort of propellor driven "biplane" outdated and outmoded, is not being entirely accurate.
