Jack, the world benefitted because Hitler was stopped in his insane quest to eliminate anyone not fitting his ideals of Germanic exeptionalism. Had Russia not expended her manpower in their millions do you think he would have stopped? In the absence of the involvement of the Soviet Union, the Allies would have to have faced what was, and is, acknowledged to have been the best equipped and trained military machine on the planet. Had it not been for the little diversion to the East of Germany, the war may well have had a very different outcome-and there is no guarantee that, despite Hitler's rhetoric about his admiration for Great Britain, that he would not have enslaved the population, and terrorized it into submission, just as he did everywhere else.

Hmm, funny you had to mention that. The UK which has existed for 1000 years or more and which population outnumbers Israel's by almost 10 to 1 ratio has 9 universities among the top 100 in the world, tiny besieged by enemies since birth 63 year old Israel has 3 such universities.
While the UK is doing much better than any other European country, in just 60+ years Israel has by far exceeded (on per capita basis) the UK's achievements in this area,. Amazing, don't you think?

Huh? We are talking good universities here, ranked in the top 100 in the world. Tiny 63 year old Israel has 3 such universities, the entire 1000 year old Great Britain with population outnumbering Israel's by 10 to 1 ratio has 9, the rest of Europe is far behind.
Let me make it simple for you cause you don't seem to understand statistics all that well:
-Israel has 1 high ranking university per 2-2.5 million Israelis
-The UK has 1 high ranking universtity per 7 million Brits
