Default Senate finds no link between Iraq, Al-Qaeda before Invasion

Just read this item on the Voice of America website:

Quote:
A report by a Senate committee says there is no evidence former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein had any relationship with the al-Qaida terrorist leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi or his associates before the U.S. and allied forces invaded Iraq in 2003
.

Of course, the facts will not change anything. I also read recently (but forget the source) that a recent poll found that a third of Americans still believed that Saddam's Iraq had had a role in the 9/11 attacks. If they didn't, we wouldn't have invaded, right?

you mean to say senate that voted for Iraq war finds out that they are a$$wipe idiots four years after the fact?

well, as always they're slow yes. but its good to know they are realising "they've been duped".. for ordinary people with brains it was obvious from the start that the whole 9:11 was done to justify invasions in the first place, but maybe it will take them another 20-30 years to figure that one out...

Default Wrong plotters

There was a plot leading up to 9/11, BushnDick. It was formulated and carried out by Al-Qaeda, led by some guy called Osama bin-Laden. The purpose of this plot was to vent their rage against the corrupt West (and America in particular) and to provoke the United States into overreacting and massively retaliating against them. Ideally, the U.S. would invade a muslim country or two and provide Al-Qaeda 'proof' to offer to the Muslim world that you were either pro-Islamist or pro-Crusader.

The purpose of 9/11 was to make Al-Qaeda important in the eyes of the world. That's why you can throw out the conspiracy theories and use Occam's Razor on the question. If you want to theorize about conspiracies, a more logical topic is why the United States picked Iraq as a country to invade, particularily in light of the facts about WMDs and terrorism links (the lack thereof, that is) that have now come out.

Oh yeah, 'Islamic fascists' is indeed a dreadful phrase that must cause every Muslim who hears it to grind his teeth and think of donating money to Al-Qaeda.

Hey heres an idea; shoulda called them "those crazy murderous f*kers that attacked us", simple and to the point. That would have removed any confusion by americans thinking it was Saddam's Iraq that did it.

neocons ...incompetence in most everything they do. Except maybe in managing to further divide the american people. Which is great for winning political campaigns but as for actually running a country effectively, it sucks ass.

Default More proof Bush lied

There was no evidence to link Al Qeada and Iraq, but that did not stop this administration from making that claim.

That is incredibly irresponsible and does nothing to fight terrorists. All it does is destroy the credibility of the United States.

Just one more way this administration has harmed the country!

Default Oh my

Oh my......if true, then this means that as President, Bill Clinton outright LIED to us in 1998:

Count 4 of that indictment:

"4. Al Qaeda also forged alliances with the National Islamic Front in
the Sudan and with the government of Iran and its associated terrorist
group Hezballah for the purpose of working together against their
perceived common enemies in the West, particularly the United States.
In addition, al Qaeda reached an understanding with the government of Iraq that al Qaeda would not work against that government and that on particular projects, specifically including weapons development, al Qaeda would work cooperatively with the Government of Iraq."

Default ?

What does your comment have to do with the indictment of bin Laden in 1998 and the connection between Iraq and al Qaeda contained in the indictment?

Osama and Saddam were at different ends of the Muslim spectrum. One was secular and modern and one was a right wing religious idealogue. Not a good mix but the neocons would have us believe they sat down together at tea and discussed attacking America.
