Iran Raps US Religious Rights Report

TEHRAN — Tehran on Saturday, September 16, blasted as "political" and "lacking legal proof" a US report criticizing what it said "harsh and oppressive treatment" of religious minorities.

"America is not credible to judge on human rights, and obviously the report... pursues a US foreign policy agenda and is of no value," foreign ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said in a statement, reported Agence France-Presse (AFP).

In its annual "Report on International Religious Freedom" around the world, the State Department said Friday it found a further deterioration in what it called "the extremely poor status of respect for religious freedom" in Iran.
The report cited what it said imprisonment, harassment, intimidation and discrimination based on religious beliefs in Iran, even among Zoroastrians, Jews and Christians -- the only legally recognized religious minorities.

The release to the US report is a precursor to the announcement each year of a blacklist of countries "of particular concern" that are subject to US sanctions.

Iran headed last year's list alongside China, Eritrea, Myanmar, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Vietnam.

No Credit

The statement said the US in no position to monitor human rights worldwide.
"America has no credit in the world, with the sinister and medieval prisons of Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib, concealing detention facilities in Europe as well as footage of torture by American guards," Hosseini said, referring to the scandal of Iraqi detainees' abuses by US jailors.

"The American government had better put an end to the banal, useless game of issuing reports and lists on human rights violators," Hosseini added.
As she presented the report, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said religious freedom was integral to US efforts to fight "terrorism".

"The entire world is threatened by the extremist ideologies of hate and bigotry and religious intolerance," she said.

"In today's world, our goal of fostering religious freedom and tolerance beyond our borders is an essential component even of national security."
American citizens and politicians said last week as the United States was marking the fifth anniversary of the September 11 attacks that the Bush administration was "politicizing" terror to help Republican candidates in the upcoming mid-term congressional elections.

Opinion polls suggest the Republicans could lose control of both houses of Congress, in large part due to rapidly growing opposition to the war in Iraq.

Finally : Thinking About Guantanamo , Abu Ghraib , And CIA Secret Prisons . Is U.S.A Turning from a freedom Country to Fascism ?
Maybe !!
