Default Progerss Report:"War on Terror" Going Great Guns!

Quote:
Spy Agencies Say Iraq War Worsens Terror Threat
WASHINGTON, Sept. 23 — A stark assessment of terrorism trends by American intelligence agencies has found that the American invasion and occupation of Iraq has helped spawn a new generation of Islamic radicalism and that the overall terrorist threat has grown since the Sept. 11 attacks.

Our view on the War in Iraq: In Iraq, a mismatch between U.S. goals and resources
Military is stretched thin trying to defeat insurgents, avert civil war.
Early this year, President Bush and his aides spoke optimistically about bringing some U.S. troops home from Iraq. "As we make progress on the ground, and Iraqi forces increasingly take the lead," Bush said in his State of the Union message, "we should be able to further decrease our troop levels."But that is not happening. On Tuesday, Gen. John Abizaid, the top U.S. commander in the Middle East, said troop levels, which have risen by 20,000 since June, would remain at the present level of about 145,000 into 2007 and may go higher.http://blogs.usatoday.com/oped/2006/09/post_22.html
Maliki (Iraqi’s Prime Minister) takes his first state visit to Neighbor, Iran. Hezbollah-like process is underway for Iraq.
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...toryId=6076771
The "War on Terror" is, in its own way, going very well. Enemy numbers swell with every passing week, USA troops gather in ever greater numbers in disintegrating Iraq and the Prime Minister of our Vichy-state just had an official visit to Iran to speed the introduction of a Hezbollah-like social organization for his own country.
How is this good news for Bush the Lame?
It insures a perpetually growing conflict in the land of Sweet Crude and guarantees unlimited opportunities for his propaganda machine to generate fear.

Let us all now stand and recite the Pledge Of Allegiance.

Default It's almost too late in Iraq!!!

The current levels of sectarian strife in Iraq cannot be contained indefinitely. Literally thousands of Iraqis are being killed each month in increasingly tit-for-tat atrocities. If the U.S., in conjunction with what moderate elements remain in the Iraqi government, cannot reduce the strife significantly within two years (and that might be too optimistic an estimate of the time available), THERE WILL BE NO LASTING DEMOCRACY IN IRAQ.

Once a sufficient level of mutual hatred has been built up, you have the stark choices of leaving the Iraqi factions alone to slaughter each other or keeping large numbers of troops in Iraq INDEFINITELY. Please note that by the time the next President is sworn in, the situation will have either have been contained or it will be irretrievable: it will be too late to change the outcome.

For the Democrats, it is time to put aside partisanship (or at least the day after the November elections) and support the White House. In exchange, the Republicans MUST explain clearly how they intend to retrieve the situation AND implement their plan effectively. At this point, there is nothing else remaining between America and the biggest military/policy failure since Vietnam!

Well, no duh. One could also make the statement that the it's gotten worse since 1) the first WTC attack in 1993; 2) Mogadishu in 1993, 3) the U.S. Embassy bombings, and 4) the attack on the U.S.S. Cole.

That's because Islamic extremists are becomming emboldened from each of these things they consider "successes." All the more reason to not give up cut and run.

this is the best you can come up with? someone gives an intelligent response to an obviously biased post, and this is your response?

The truth is, this growing terrorist movement has been building since 1979 when those bastards took our embassy hostages in Iran. To say it started when we invaded Iraq is very short sighted and I would suggest that the best remedy for ignorance is education.

ok, you can go back to your coloring book now.

Default Well now...

Well now.....it seems that in their typical fashion, the NYTimes and NPR have pulled out a tiny portion of a rather large NIE report in their effort to try and smear the Bush administration.

"The Democrats hoped the report would undermine the GOP's image as the party more capable of handing terrorism as the campaign enters its final six-week stretch.

Their criticisms came in a collection of statements sent to reporters Sunday amid the disclosure of a National Intelligence Estimate that concluded the war has helped create a new generation of Islamic radicalism and that the overall terrorist threat has grown since the Sept. 11 attacks.

The report was completed in April and represented a consensus view of the 16 disparate spy services inside government, according to an intelligence official. The official, confirming accounts first published in Sunday's New York Times and Washington Post, spoke on condition of anonymity on Sunday because the report is classified."

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060924/...o_co/us_iraq_4

So, let's see how this goes: the Democrats like Teddy Kennedy, Rahm Emanuel, and Jane Harman are sitting around brainstorming about what they can do just 50 days before the election???? Things are getting desperate here. Somebody says....I've got it! Let's send some of the staff over and pull some phrases out of that 5-month old NIE Report. Maybe we can spin that in to something. We'll send those phrases along with our own talking points out to several news outlets. Let's start with our buddies, the NYTimes: they'll love it! After all, we've got to try and change the subject here.

Well, if the Dems figured it out in April, then they must be ahead of the 'Pubs, who still haven't figured it out.

You guys are too much, you crack me up.

I'll just repeat what I said in the other thread:

"And this is news?"

Well you have to read both sides to know what's really going on. If you watch liberal media and you are an liberal you are only receiving infomation that you already assume to be correct. Like wise with the Republicans.

Skeptic f being realistic, it will take more than 2 year. by next elections it might be hundreds to thousands of more u.s troops dead and the problem would have gotten worst.

Ok lets stay and play. Or as your man likes to say, "Lets stay the course", but what is the course? The War on Terror is being fought just like the War on Drugs?

Peace.
