Pelosi claims to be a staunch union supporter, and, along with her husband, has received the Cesar Chavez award from the United Farm Workers Union,

Unions are, in her words, "fighting for America's working families" and battling "the union-busting, family-hurting" Bush administration. But Schweizer uncovered that a $25 million Northern California vineyard the Pelosis own is a non-union shop!

The congresswoman is the top recipient among members of Congress in campaign contributions from labor unions, and has received more money from the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International Union than any other member of Congress in the last several election cycles.

But in addition to the wine business, the Pelosis own a large stake in the exclusive Auberge du Soleil hotel in Rutherford, Calif. The hotel has more than 250 employees; but once again, Schweizer found, it is strictly a non-union shop.

The Pelosis are also partners in a restaurant chain called Piatti, which has 900 employees.

"But a union card is not required to work there bussing tables, washing dishes, serving guests, or preparing food," Schweizer wrote in NewsMax Magazine.

"As with Auberge du Soleil, at Piatti the Pelosis' commitment to organized labor ends at the front door."

Pelosi has also demonstrated hypocrisy on the environment. "With us," she proclaims, "the environment is not an issue — it's an ethic. It's a value."

That's what she says. Schweizer exposed what she does: One of her largest investments is a private partnership called Lions Gate Limited, which operates the CordeValle Golf Club and Resort in San Martin, Calif.

To get a permit to build the facility, the partners promised to build a "public course" providing considerable access to non-members, and to abide by several environmental requirements to ensure that there would be minimal ecological damage.

But after the facility opened, the county's Planning Commission found that the golf course was in fact private — and the club had "ignored" many of its permit requirements concerning the environment!

"The reality is that liberals like to preach in moral platitudes," says Schweizer.

"But when it comes to applying those same standards to themselves, liberals are found to be shockingly guilty of hypocrisy."

Hard choice there JP

I will go so far as to say that in a few years Nancy's eyebrows will end up on the back of her head if she gets them lifted any further.

Hey ray,
Remember the term liberal elite?

Well, Nancy here is the queen bee.

I know, I know. I should be ashamed of myself.

But hey, the woman annoyed me BEFORE she became Majority Leader. That doesn't change now just because Dems are ACTING like they all want to be kissy-face. The act won't last long.

My guess is it'll end up somewhere in between her shoulder blades.

If, on the off chance, whatever has her facial muscles tied back ever let's go... they'll probably end up below her collar bone.

Good, it is constitutionally wrong. It infringes on our freedom as citizens.

And we should do this...why???? The beauty of nature will far outlast our dependence on oil. Lets research more alternative fuel and put the middle east out of business.

Freedom of speech. Forcing people to be patriotic is fascism. Besides if the citizens of the country are burning their own flag and refusing to vote isn't that an indication that something is wrong in Washington???

Why is the government involved in civil union anyways? Religiously, it is a union between a man a woman and the church. Not a man a woman and the government. I understand that it is a contract, but lets just do away with that as well. Is marriage religious or not? If it is it has no place in government affairs. Separation of church and state

At least I can understand this logic.

I don't like this, but at least she doesn't oppose gun ownership itself.

How so? in what way do you have any links to substantiate all of these claims? Immigration seems to be a bipartisan concern, I haven't seen any politicians that just say come on over! (except maybe Bush)

Was it non-union because they broke attempts? If there is no union, then perhaps they pay and treat their workers well enough that they don't need a union. Unions are good, they are a symptom of exploitative working conditions. They fight not just for the good of the workers but for all workers to come. That is why we don't have child labor in this country, that is why employers are held accountable for workplace injuries. But I don't take this from a Democratic standpoint I take it from a Syndicalistic standpoint.

So are you for or against Unions? Or is it just that you don't like her because she is a Democrat? I agree she is probably bad because all politicians are. As the saying goes "In government the scum rises to the top"...

Default My shangri-la beneath the summer moon, I will return again

She also voted against the Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act. Her vote is anathema to any state's rights advocate. This law simply upheld the states right to pass their own law and have it respected by other states.

Why is she worried about protecting 16 year old boys from e-mails, but not protecting little girls from being abused in this way? Monstrous.

Believe me-----Pelosi is acting all kissy-kissy today, but it won't last long. The fangs will appear again shortly.

Default Legislative Record

"Legislative Record
As a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, Pelosi fought for America's families. She has been a leader in increasing educational opportunity, protecting workers, and promoting health care, including women's health and the creation of a nationwide health tracking network to examine the links between environmental pollutants and chronic disease. She has been a strong proponent of increased investments in health research, and has secured funding to double the budget for the National Institutes of Health. Pelosi also has successfully defeated repeated attempts to reduce funding for international family planning programs.
One of Pelosi's first legislative victories was the creation of the Housing Opportunities for People with AIDS program. She has also worked to accelerate development of an HIV vaccine, expand access to Medicaid for people living with HIV, and increase funding for the Ryan White CARE Act, the Minority HIV/AIDS Initiative and other programs vital to people living with or at risk for HIV/AIDS.

Pelosi also successfully increased access to health insurance for people with disabilities by ensuring continuation of their health care coverage. She was instrumental in passing legislation to assist nonprofit organizations in the creation of affordable housing.

As a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence for 10 years (the longest continuous period of service in the committee's history) including two years as the Ranking Democrat, Pelosi worked to ensure that policymakers and military commanders are provided with the timely and accurate intelligence necessary to guide diplomatic initiatives, succeed in combat, and protect U.S. military forces.

In meetings around the world with U.S. and foreign intelligence leaders, Pelosi has urged for greater attention to the threats to international security posed by the proliferation of technologies associated with the weapons of mass destruction and global terrorism.
In the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks, Pelosi led congressional reviews of the U.S. intelligence and security agencies and authored legislation to create an independent national commission to assess the overall performance of the federal government before, during, and after the attacks.

Pelosi has long been an advocate for human rights around the world. She has fought to improve China's human rights record, attempting to tie trade to increased human rights standards. She has also been a leader on efforts to free the people of Tibet.

A leader on the environment at home and abroad, Pelosi secured passage of a provision in the International Development and Finance Act of 1989 which requires the World Bank and all the regional multilateral development banks to review the potential environmental impacts of development projects for which they provide funding and to make these environmental assessments publicly available. Known as the "Pelosi Amendment," it has become a significant tool for indigenous, nongovernmental organizations around the world.

Pelosi has also served on the Committee on Standards of Official Conduct (Ethics) and the Banking and Financial Services Committee. She has chaired the Congressional Working Group on China and has served on the Executive Committee of the Democratic Study Group."
