Default US imposes new sanctions on Iran

The Bush administration announced sweeping new sanctions against Iran Thursday — the harshest since the takeover of the U.S. Embassy in 1979 — charging anew that Tehran supports terrorism in the Middle East, exports missiles and is engaging in a nuclear build-up.

Good riddens! Hopefully economic pressure will prevent us from having to use military force, but those draft supporters might like that idea. Thoughts?

Default .

Why stop at "sanctions"

There should be a complete, and unfettered embargo on all things "Iran." No money. No goods. No nothing.

On a side note: I give it two weeks, and the U.N. will be denouncing us for this.

I'd have to agree. In fact, I can't believe it's taken them this long to pull something together. And who knows what these sanctions will "actually" impact. Talk radio is already spreading rumors that economic sanctions are the forefront to military actions. I guess only time will tell.

I wonder what would happen if we went to war with Iran... Anyone care to speculate?

So, I'm guessing you don't have a problem with Iran in possession of nuclear weapons?

Yeah, screw that. I'd pay higher oil prices any day if it kept WMDs away from the Iranians. How many more fascist dictators should we let have nuclear weapons before they're all threatening each other (and us) with them?

that concerns me about as much as knowing pakistan has nuclear weapons

it bothers me almost as much as knowing israel has nuclear weapons and more significantly, the means to get the nuclear devices to a distant target, and most importantly, a neoconservative government very willing pull that "nucular" trigger - knowing our neoconservatives will have their country's back

huh? You're just as worried about Israel and Pakistan having them? I mean, I understand that as long as "someone" has them, "no one" can be completely at ease, but I'd sure as hell rather our allies have them than our enemies.

pakistan is NOT our ally. osama bin forgotten is either protected by the citizens of pakistan or by the house of saud. in either instance, neither regime is willing to turn over the George Washington of the Moslem world to the USA and neither is a true ally

israel is not our ally. that does not imply that israel does not use its connection to American jews who can and do influence American policy in israel's favor. israel spies on our country to know where we stand. we happen to be the superpower which is now willing to accommodate israel's interests. make no mistake, if china were willing to subsitute itself in that role for us and that was in israel's best interest, the change of alliance would happen instantly

know where you stand. also know where your friends stand.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cutting off key Iranian military and banking institutions from the American financial system ("three of its largest banks - 1 invested in Iraq").
So what does this mean to Iraq, since one of the leading banks in Iraq is Bank Mile Iran? Will we force Iraq to drop the Iran bank we deal in, or will the US put sanctions against all American corporations with money tied to the Iran banking system. The answer will be NO, but I thought I would interject what little the US sanction means to Iran banking.
