Just as many of us have told the naysayers: these guys LIE when they are in GITMO---claiming abuse and that they were threatened. This guy obviously LIED. He lied about his treatment by the U.S. military---he lied about his former affiliation with al Qaeda and the Taliban----and he lied that he was only in Afghanistan in 2001 to "study the Quran." After being released to his home country of Kuwait, they had a trial (not much of one apparently) and he was released back on the streets. He became a homicide bomber in April inside Iraq killing Iraqi policeman and others. And he's not the only one! Let this be a lesson: THESE PEOPLE ARE BAD!!
"Though he was never charged with any crime, al-Ajmi was held at Guantanamo through 2005. Military documents show he later claimed that his statements about fighting for the Taliban were made after he was threatened while in U.S. custody. He asserted that he was in Afghanistan to study the Quran. Al-Ajmi was transferred to the custody of Kuwaiti authorities in November 2005, with four other Kuwaitis, and was released after a trial there, according to Pentagon officials. Al-Ajmi is not the first former Guantanamo detainee to reportedly return to the battlefield after being released. Pentagon officials say there are more than 10 people once held by the U.S. at Guantanamo who have been killed or captured in fighting after being released from the detention facility. "Our reports indicate that a number of former [Guantanamo Bay] detainees have taken part in anti-coalition militant activities after leaving U.S. detention. Some have subsequently been killed in combat," said Cmdr. Jeff Gordon, a Pentagon spokesman. Documents provided by the Pentagon show other former detainees returning to the battlefield, including Abdullah Mahsud, who was released from Guantanamo in 2004. He returned to Afghanistan, where he became a militant leader in the Mahsud tribe in southern Waziristan, the documents said. "We have since discovered that he had been associated with the Taliban since his teen years and has been described as an al Qaeda-linked facilitator." http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/meast/...eref=rss_world

Then why aren't we putting these people on trial?
The problem stems from locking people up indefinitely without charging and trying them. Put them on trial. As to this suicide bomber, it would seem that our ally, Kuwait, screwed things up with a trial that failed to keep a guilty man off the streets. With allies like that, who needs enemies! |

Rabbit, look at what you just said. 'Putting these detainees on trial doesn't work, but we shouldn't lock them up.' Doesn't the former give justification to the latter?
Given the excellent treatment of Gitmo detainees (even Michael Moore acknowledged that they get full dental and healthcare...) I see no problem in with-holding them indefinitely to prevent terrorism. I trust our elected officials in their judgment as to who the CIA should and shouldn't target: and they were obviously right about these 10 radicals. The accusations of torture and mistreatment have produced no evidence, except a single case of 15 seconds of waterboarding.

Maybe this guy became a homicide bomber because of his treatment at Gitmo...

The idiocy of this statement is astounding! It is not your decision! The founding fathers, in all their brilliance, knew there would be people like you and circumstances like this, that is why they included the right to a trial in the constitution!! If they didn't think people would find circumstances under which this right could be suspended they would not have included it! You say you trust elected officials? What if Obama wins? Will you still trust them?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17239258/ You are ignorant to believe that Obama, if elected, will do anything different than Bush about these detained terrorists. This terrorists that was released is just an example of what is to come if more are released, and the blood of the innocent will be on the hands of the sympathizers. Quite pathetic indeed.
