After years of refusing to discuss any timed framework for withdrawal of US troops in Iraq and hurling bile and invective at dems anytime the topic was raised in connection with his failed policies, Bush has now done the old flipperoo and agreed with his puppet Maliki on the idea of a time "horizon" on US troop withdrawal.
Dubya can't wait to hand the steaming pile over to his successor and spend the rest of his life blaming others for his lies and blunders. Now watch the hapless cons on this board attempt to construe Dubya's latest action as no change in his position. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080718/...Y3eDExdHes0NUE

Is there just even the slightest possibility that because the surge is and has been working, we might be able to withdraw some troops in a planned manner? It's not like he should just get off the pot from his morning doo doo and decide to bring a few brigades home that day. He should plan at least a little....

no because if violence goes down, we have to stay. if it goes up, we have to stay. thats the iraq war apologist logic.

Umm so Bush saying basically now that violence is down, we can start to form a plan to leave doesn't qualify as rebuking that 'iraq war apologist logic'?

no, because the surge wasnt meant to bring the war to an end. the talk of talk of a timetable, now, stems from iraqi pressure.

The Iraq people want our asses out of Iraq. We havn't done much of anything worthwhile there, the surge is whack-a-mole, and whether or not we stay it will now always be a pit of problems. Now the focus will turn to Afghanistan where we should have spent our time getting Bin Laden and then gotten the heck outta there and had all our troops home for years already, with thousands still alive and/or uninjured.

It's a great gotcha moment, but the timetable is 5+ years away and will be up to the next President, or maybe even the next.

"General Time Horizon". That's a wonderful B.S. phrase. I wonder how many weeks it took for them to come up with a phrase that wasn't "timetable"?
