Default saddam and Iraq are the victims

[quote=MrRelevant;637248]Saddam was the victim? We victimized this guy?

Yes actually we did make Saddam Hussein the victim. as well as the citizens of his republic. His country was bombed repeatedly by the US from the gulf war on. heavy sanctions were set on his country, ruining the once booming iraqi economy. Sanctions for having WMD's which have never been found. in 2003 his country was illegally and unjustly invaded and bombed. His trial was completely unfair, biased and illegitamate. therefore his death penalty is unjust. His sons and grandson were killed as well as a high number of his civilians by the occupying forces. The West definitely made Saddam the victim.

From this I am able to discern three things:

1) You can twist history to make it fit any desired conclusion.
2) Truth and reality are in short order around here today.
3) Don't mess with the bull, cuz you just might get the horn.

1. What part of that history was twisted?
2. Truth and reality are in short order around here today.
3. If america is the bull then iraq and Saddam have gotten the horn. Problem is they never messed with it.

Zaro, you're too easy, now explain to the class the half life of Depleted Uranium.
While you are correct that the half life of isotope uranium-238 is 4.5 billion years, depleted uranium consists however isn't completely made of Ur-238, and consists of about 40% less radioactive uranium then natural Uranium. Making the external radiation dose from DU about 60 percent of that from the same mass of natural uranium. ["Properties and Characteristics of DU" U.S. Office of the Secretary of Defense] Which still is a considerate amount.

Furthermore the real problem in the usage of depleted uranium doesn't lie in the radioactive hazards of DU but in the Chemical hazards of DU. U-238 is a heavy metal whose compounds are known from laboratory studies to be toxic to mammals. Metallic uranium is prone to corrosion and small pieces are pyrophoric in air. [US Dept. of Energy Handbook, "Primer on Spontaneous Heating and Pyrophoricity", Chapter "Uranium"]

Further Chemical hazards are that Depleted Uranium is:
immunotoxin
[Wan B, Fleming J, Schultz T, Sayler G (2006). "In vitro immune toxicity of depleted uranium: effects on murine macrophages, CD4+ T cells, and gene expression profiles". Environ Health Perspect 114 (1): 85–91]
teratogen
[Arfsten D. P., Still K. R., Ritchie G. D. (2001). "A review of the effects of uranium and depleted uranium exposure on reproduction and fetal development.". Toxicol Ind Health 17 (5-10): 180–91]
[Domingo J. L. (2001). "Reproductive and developmental toxicity of natural and depleted uranium: a review". Reprod Toxicol 15 (6): 603–9]

neurotoxic
[Briner W., Murray J. (2005). "Effects of short-term and long-term depleted uranium exposure on open-field behavior and brain lipid oxidation in rats.". Neurotoxicol Teratol 27 (1): 135–44]
with carcinogenic and leukemogenic potential

Justice i know you're playing X Box now so take a quick note ...I didn't post the half-life information, I asked the question "how long is it." See the difference?

Question for the geniuses in the class, Do any of you eat produce from the Market?

Natural Uranium the kind that you did up from the ground and can hold in your hand and keep on a chain around your neck if you want won't kill you or do you any harm. DU won't harm you. I'm not going to beat my head into a wall for an Ignorant thread like this one.

in that case... you can't talk about a half life because it's not one isotope.

You know when Depleted Uranium is really dangerous and poses a health hazard because it's heated and gaseous? When a round penetrates the hull of the Tank you are sitting in, then it's pretty much over then. Yeah hold your breathe you might get cancer.

yes, depleted uranium is used in food. But the amount is so little that it's in no comparison to that used on the battle field. Also this amount is negligable for the prostetic teeth. And as for the xray walls. It's the least worse of the 2. However strict guidelines are in place for people operating xray machines. In fact, they have a limited amount of time they may spend operating a xray machine (and thus being in contact with du)
