Poland is just asking for a confrontation with Russia.


Russia's foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, has told his Polish counterpart that Moscow regards a US anti-missile shield, which Poland has agreed to host, as a direct threat to Russian forces.

Speaking after meeting with Poland's foreign minister, Radek Sikorski, in Warsaw, Mr Lavrov, on his first visit to a Western capital since August's Georgian-Russian conflict, said: "Russia cannot fail to see the risks emerging as a result of US strategic forces coming closer to our borders."
Both Poland and the United States insist that the shield poses no threat to Russia, and is intended to protect the West from rouge states in the Middle East.

But although Mr Lavrov dismissed these claims, arguing the American system targeted Russia, he added that he was open to further discussion on the subject, and tried to ease his country's strained relations with Warsaw by saying that Poland itself posed no threat to his country.
His conciliatory words, which were matched by those of Mr Sikorski, came as marked change of tack from Russia, who has previously threatened to target nuclear weapons at its former Central-European vassal state as a response to Poland agreeing to host American interceptor missiles.

"We cannot fail to see the risks emerging as a result of U.S. strategic forces coming closer to our borders," Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told a joint news conference with his Polish counterpart Radoslaw Sikorski.
"We are certain this system in Europe can have no other target for a long time to come but Russia's strategic forces."
Putin also warned Poland and the Czech Republic against hosting the U.S. missile shield. "Our targeting of these countries will happen as soon as these missiles are brought," Putin said. "Please do not instigate an arms race in Europe. It is not needed. What should we do? Sit pretty while they deploy missiles?"

I can compare this whole situation to a burglar who opposes the instalation of anti-burglar rollers in shops. Isn't this ridiculous?! Sure, if I was Russian government and I was to nuke/attack any western country, I'd be pissed due to this anti-missile shield. But if I wasn't planning any of these actions - what's the big deal?!

A lot of huff and puff from a country who doesn't have a pot to (*)(*)(*)(*) in (2 trillion dollar economy ). We should just get it over with. Declare war on Russia, everyone launch nukes, relive the stone age.

Its a defensive missile base and, with only around 20 missiles, its not threat to Russian deterrance. You guys could overwhelm it a thousand times.

Why does it scare you so much? Are you planning on using a handful of nukes on Europe anytime soon and worried they might get shot down?

Why should Russia endanger relations with Europe, which is its main trade partner? It's Uncle Sam who will leave Europe for good very soon.

Umm, how? The governments of NATO and the EU still want our help.
