The UNSC resolution is quite strongly worded. It's balanced in that a cease-fire has to apply to both sides, but it ends with the instruction that Israel has to withdraw. The fact that the US, France and Britain have agreed to this tells me they feel Israel is on shaky ground with this invasion.

The resolution passed. The US abstained! I'm shocked at that.

Rice is explaining the US position. She said the resolution is a step towards goals. She appears to agree with all of the provisions of the cease-fire.

She said the US requires 'principled' resolution of the issue, and that the resolution today was a stepping stone to that. She's peppering her statement with Hamas rants.

She said that the text and the goals are fully supported by the US. So no real explanation as to why the US abstained.

Well I'd heard earlier that the US supported the resolution so I thought the US was going to vote in favor of it.

Why would the US support the resupplying of hamas?

The US supported the resolution, they just didn't vote for it. The resolution, which you no doubt haven't read, addresses arms smuggling.

How about this: The IDF withdraws completely from Gaza. (Like it did in 2005)
If Hamas fires a rocket into Israel then Israel fires a rocket into Gaza. Remember rockets have no guidance system so where they land they land. If Hamas fires a hundred rockets the IDF fires a hundred rockets back no problem.
The root cause of the ongoing problem is very simple. When Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005 the radical Islamofacists needed some one, any one, to fight with. Hence their conflict with Fatah. So after they defeated Fatah and seeing how Israel had withdrawn what to do? Start firing rockets into Israel again. After all they 'had to get the day in' somehow right? This reminds me of someone who has been dumped. The 'dumper' has walked away for whatever reason but the 'dumpee' is so filled with anger/hate/pain they decide to make the 'dumper's' life a living hell to get back at them. The 'dumper' could move ten thousand miles away to start a new life but the 'dumpee' will be right behind causing whatever shi* they can.
The entire State of Israel could 'up-stakes' and relocate in Wyoming and soon the radical Islamofacists would be lobbing rockets into the center of Cheyenne.

And gone where?
That isnt for Isreal to figure out. If the average citizen would fight against terrorists, this wouldnt even be a problem.
