Default Death Penelty

The death penelty is a fierce law. The death penelty should only be given if the plaintiff has been bad in the prison system. Every person should have the right to go to prisin but only the bad people should actually be forced to go to the death penelty. Why waste a life when you can save it.. I know all that crap about what it says in the bible but their should be stronger laws in place then there are now!

Default so what you're saying is....

It's 100% effective as a deterrent for at least one person... the convicted.

How can we discourage violence and murder by killing someone?

Default You know...My brain says no..

..but sometimes my heart says yes...Especially in cases where the victims were tortured or where the crime was particularly gruesome....or when it involves children....

I sometimes find it very hard to defend the typical pinko stance of being anti-death penalty...for instance, Saddam Hussein, or Milosovic or OBL most definitely deserve to die....but then you get into the whole revenge concept...wouldn't it be better to kill them nice and slowly? How then do you do that and then call yourself civilized?

There are certain cases where I would gladly see someone put to death, but I know that if push came to shove I know that I personally wouldn't be able to participate in the process.

The only obvious exception would be if, God forbid, something happened to someone close to me....then the mothereffer couldn't be dead enough...

As far as the DP goes in the US, there are just too many flaws in the system for it to be either a) a deterrent or b) 100% foolproof. All you have to do is look at the number of death row cases thrown out recently in Illinois to see that....

I will guarantee you that this country has already executed an innocent person, the odds are too long for it NOT to have happened...

Throw 'em in cell and throw away the key..no gyms, no visits, no cable tv...hardtime. Period.

Default a little torn as well

I think truebrit made the most sense. It seems to affect you more when it's closer to you. Capital punishment is not full-proof in this country, or any other. However, as the old saying goes, "if you want peace, you must work for justice." Don Corleone(the godfather, not the member here) had the best idea for justice in GF1. maybe we should look to some mafiosos for some help in finding justice1

Default Back and Forth

Even though I said "How can we discourage violence and murder by killing someone?" I am torn about the death penalty. In most cases I do not condone the killing of another person. A part of me says that there are just some crimes that cannot be forgiven, and some people who don't deserve it. Another part of me says that forgiveness can be given to anyone.

I don't know how I would feel if something were to happen to someone who was close to me. I know that there are families who have been victims of atrocities that speak out against the death penalty.

I don't like saying that I support the death penalty, because I don't feel that I do. But I don't go around saying "abolish it" because I don't feel that way either. I'm not sure. Human life is a tricky thing. The taking of a life must be taken seriously.

Default Heh...

If any sick **** was to kill anyone in my family or near my family I would want them dead. Unfourtunatly in most cases the victims' families dont feel closure when the murderer is killed like everyone seems to believe.

Default I say we use it with great gusto!

Yes, death penalty should be used often and with a broad space of crimes. The best way to discourage criminals is to kill every one of them you catch.
Rob a gas station? 10 years.
Rob a gas station a second time? You're dead.
Concrete evidence you rapes someone? Say bye bye, loser.
This crap in murder cases where they get the death penalty and people ask "are you 100% sure he isn't innocent?" has to stop. It undermines our surety and confidence as a secure nation. DNA evidence makes everything 100% guilty or innocent, nothing inconclusive about it.

Default against it completly

No-one should end up falsely on death, just like no-one should end up in jail falsely. I would rather let 10000 criminals walk away free than put one innocent man in jail, i think innocent until proved guilty has been forgotten lately.
