They should be brought up on charges, but it should be manslaughter or less. They obviously did it through ignorance not malice... and I think they're probably paying a big price right now jail or not.
This reminds me of the contraversies concerning Christian Scientists who refused to get their kids to the hospital to treat problems.

At any rate this ought to be broadcast heavily. If this is something vegans are doing normally, they should know what the effects are.
It's terrible... but I really don't think they meant to do it.

I don't think it was murder either. It was not intentional. But they should go to jail and be sterilized as a condition of release. People that stupid should not be allowed to breed again. Ever. They need to be eliminated from the gene pool.

I don't know. Ignorant people can learn. That's why we look at malice when sizing up crime. Evil is dangerous unless kept in check... Stupidity often carries its own punishments and we can at least hope that a slap on the wrist will get them to reconsider their actions.
Being vegans, I don't know if it's stupidity as much as garbage in-garbage out. There's a book out there on how to raise a vegetarian cat... Now, I'm no biology expert... but cats are not omnivores- they're carnivores. I don't believe for a second that a cat can live healthily off a vegetarian diet.
It's the same with people who look to religious books for cures or think that forcing religion down a kid's throat makes up for lack of a trusting relationship.
My hope is that people falling for this zealous ignorance might learn to analyze what they read or second guess their own notions on future decisions...

People who kill while drunk driving get off a lot easier. These parents didn't do it intentionally but they needed to be dealt with.

I think the death of their child will haunt them forever and that will be a worse punishment. That's one thing i don't want to ever deal with - the death of a child.

Especially if you're the idiot that killed him/her.
