There are about 30 million blacks in the US. There are more than a half million of them currently incarcerated. That means about 2% of all blacks are in prison. Add to that the blacks who have committed crimes and have been paroled or are on probation, add to that the number of blacks who haven't yet been caught and you're probably looking at well over 10% of the black population.




Your numbers are wrong.

See, this is the problem: that's just plain incorrect. Group statistical analysis has absolutely no predictive value when you get down to the level of individuals.

One of the reasons more black people are incarcerated in the United States is because of lack of adequate education. Like it or not that's fact. People in jails and prisons are more than 2 or 3 times likely to have disabilities than people who are not incarcerated. If we follow the logic of some of you here that would simply mean that most disabled people are criminals, which is of course absurd.

I would submit that because there are educators who are just as racist and bigoted as some of the people on this thread and because the educational system in the US is inadequate disabled students and minority students are more likely to receive a poor education.

Racism is alive and it is alive in education just as it is alive in every facet of American life. Disabled students begin the educational experience at a disadvantage and for most that disadvantage is never overcome. For black kids add 3 centuries racism and oppression to the mix and you've got an excellent formula to produce massive failure. A black disabled kid has almost no chance of ever being anything but poor. Many of these people end up in prison, in fact about 1/3 of the prison population is disabled. I haven't read any research but I would not be surprised if one of the reasons of recidivism is that disabilities are not addressed in prison. The disabled prisoner then returns to society with the same issues that contributed to his initial incarceration and more.

All this would explain one reason there is a higher black prison population. There are many, many factors, racism within the criminal justice system being another one.

That's because black culture doesn't emphasize education. Blacks have the same educational opportunities as any other race in the US.

That statement is actually not correct.
